XChapter 11XX The Man X

There is a knock on my door and I groan in annoyance. Will this day ever end? First Tobi, then Deidara, followed by Kakuzu…who else is there? Well, okay, there’s a lot, but still, can’t they wait?

“Nagareboshi?” A familiar voice calls through the door and it takes me a moment to place the voice. When I do, I scowl. What does he want?

“Yes, Hidan? What could you possibly want at this ungodly time?” I demand loud enough to be heard through the door. There is no way I am unlocking the door for that fool, especially not at night. Deidara warned me about him and I have every intention of heeding that advice.

Even through the door, I can hear the grin in his voice as he says something that makes my blood chill. “I’m half naked, can you guess which half?”

“Your left half,” I answer sarcastically. “Now, if you don’t return to your room, you will probably catch a cold, so good night, Hidan.”

“What-”

“Good night.”

“Fu-”

“Good night, Hidan.”

There is a bang as he hits the wall, but it is followed with the pleasant sound of retreating footsteps. It seems he has given up for tonight, though I will make sure not to be alone with him tomorrow. I do enjoy living and I have no desire for my life to abruptly end by the blade of a scythe…or any deadly weapon for that matter. And I say that as if not all weapons are deadly…ha-ha…

Still, I am surprised that the door and a few words was enough to stop him. I heard how much he harassed Yukiko on her first night. He even broke down the door. Yukiko is the opposite of helpless, though, and had him running out a moment later with an ice monster on his heels.

I, on the other hand, would have been completely defenseless had he decided words and a flimsy lock wouldn’t keep him out. Truthfully, all those locks are good for is warning you when someone has to break down the door to get in. If he wanted to get in, there would be nothing stopping him and the most I would be able to do is dodge his first move. If he tried again, I would find myself in a very helpless situation.

Maybe he is starting to learn the error in his ways. Or maybe I should start learning how to seal my door…

I find myself very awake when the alarm bells start ringing in my head. Or, rather, my ears. And it’s only one bell. It’s a very, very loud single bell. I groan, unwilling to open my eyes at whatever ungodly hour this is, and roll onto my side so I can hit the alarm on the bedside table, hoping to shut it up. However, I find nothing there and the momentum of attempted blow sends me rolling off the bed.

My face hits the floor and I moan unhappily, eyes remaining shut. The ringing finally stops and I can think again. Right…not my room. No bedside table.

But who says you can’t sleep on the floor? I find myself thinking smugly as I blindly reach up to my bed and pull my comforter down with me.

Someone sighs loudly, but I ignore them. That is, until they pull the comforter off me and I absolutely have to open my eyes so that I can glare at them. Maybe if I glare hard enough, they’ll realize it’s safer to leave me alone.
