The Long Life of Kara Zor-El

Chapter 45

Kara and Barry arrive in National City and there is total chaos all around them. There are Parademons still attacking people and flying them off up and away to the spaceship above. People on the streets are still running and screaming, trying to escape being abducted, or worse, death. The two super heroes can hear the brutal screams of people being murdered, who have tried to fight back against these monster looking aliens. Then at the same time Kara and Barry can hear the deafening screeches of these bug-like aliens, just like they heard the creature make who attacked their cabin. Everything that is happening around the two super heroes is so overwhelming, there is so much going on that neither really know where to begin. Spectre Oliver then reappears in front of Barry and Kara.

"Oliver, what do we do?" Barry asks out of desperation.

"You fight." Oliver says, as if it is the most obvious thing in the world.

"What about you? Will you stand with us?" Kara asks.

"My powers are limited. If I fight here, I may not be able to fight alongside you later, when Darkseid arrives." Oliver explains.

Kara gets a frustrated and angry look on her face.

"But how can you.." Kara begins, anger in her voice.

"Kara look!" Barry interrupts, pointing to a big TV screen on the side of one of the skyscrapers of National City.

Kara looks towards the TV screen and notices that a news network is playing, and on it there is a live shot of herself and Barry standing in the streets of National City, with the headline: BREAKING: SUPERWOMAN AND THE FLASH RETURN! Curiously enough, even though spectre Oliver is standing right beside them, he cannot be seen on the TV footage being captured from a drone flying overhead.

"It seems you have an audience." Oliver says, as he nods to the screen.

Kara turns to look at Barry, clenching her fists.

"You go help Oliver and Alex. I'll get in the skies to support Keiran and Lori." Kara explains.

"I got it." Barry nods and runs off.

Kara shoots off into the air, focusing and flying in the direction where she can hear her two daughters fighting. However, as soon as Kara launches into the sky and begins her flight, several of the aliens which are flying in the air turn towards her, some of whom were holding people and just drop them. Kara quickly flies and grabs as many people as she can, but she is only one person, several of the people die when they hit the ground, all this does is enrage Kara even more. Kara just knows that she is going to make all these aliens pay for coming to her planet.

Kara gently places the few people she was able to save back onto the ground, and ushers them into a building, away from the fighting. Once the people are safely inside, Kara turns back around to face her oncoming attackers, at least 30 Parademons are flying in her direction. Kara doesn't wait for them to come to her though, she sets off up in the air again and flies directly at the Parademons. As soon as Kara is a few metres away she uses her heat vision to take several of the aliens out, cutting their bodies into pieces, then once she reaches the other aliens, she barrels into them sending several of them flying into the ground, landing with a painful screech. The remaining Parademons attempt to all attack Kara, but Kara uses her fists to punch them back, and then grabs a few of them and just rips them apart, limb from limp. Kara years ago may have been hesitant about killing anyone and anything, even aliens such as these, but Kara is over 150 years old, she no longer cares about that. Kara is willing to do anything to protect her home, and if she has to kill these Parademons to do it, then she will. Even though Kara is aware that these Parademons, from Oliver's explanations, most likely used to be peaceful aliens from a planet Darkseid invaded, Kara just thinks that they can no longer be considered anything like their original alien species. So, at the very least, Kara thinks that by killing these aliens she may be bringing them peace finally, as they can no longer be controlled by Darkseid. Darkseid may have taken away just about everything else from them, but he cannot do anything to take away their deaths.
