It was eighth year for those who had wanted to return to Hogwarts. Mcgonagall was the new headmistress and decided it would be a good idea for the seventh years to redo their year because of the war. Most students had chosen to pursue their careers and started training for their jobs at the ministry instead of going back to Hogwarts, meaning there weren't many eighth years.

Third person POV:

Hermione stood at kings cross station, waiting for Harry and Ron, who were late as usual. She looked around to see if anyone else she recognised had returned. She recognised a few faces, two of which she wasn't so happy to see. Malfoy and Parkinson. She looked around a little more and realised they were the only slytherins who returned, there weren't many hufflepuffs either, only Hannah Abbott and Susan bones. Padma Patil was another face Hermione recognised, Padma was walking alongside two other ravenclaws she recognised as Terry boot and Micheal Corner. She saw Seamus, Dean, and Neville boarding the train just as she felt a tap on her shoulder.

"Hey 'Mione, sorry we're late." Ron said, panting.

"It's fine, now let's hurry before we're late." Hermione said, grabbing Harry and Ron's wrists and dragging them onto the Hogwarts Express. They looked into all of the compartments until they finally found an empty one. Hermione sat across from Harry, who was staring out the window, lost in thought. Hermione reached into her bag and pulled out the book she was reading about wizards in Italy. She flicked to the page she was last on and got lost in the words of the book, until someone knocked on the door of the compartment.

"Come in." Hermione said without looking up from the page she was reading.

"Er- hello." Said a familiar voice. Hermione looked up to see a black haired girl staring right back at her.

"Parkinson? Can we help you...?" Hermione shot a puzzled look at Ron and Harry.

"Well, because of last year, everybody hates Draco and all of the compartments are full but nobody will share theirs with us. We were hoping you guys...would." Parkinson asked.

"Sure, sit where you like I guess." Hermione wasn't thrilled about having to sit with their two enemies, but she was just trying to be nice. Maybe they just won't talk and everything will be fine. She thought.

"Thanks, I'll go get Draco." Parkinson said, then went down the corridor.

"Are you serious? You didn't tell me we have to sit with scarhead, weaslebee, and mud-" Malfoy complained, but was interrupted.

"Do you want a place to sit or not?" Harry said, rolling his eyes. Parkinson sat next to Hermione and Malfoy reluctantly sat next to her. Hermione continued to read her book and Harry went back to staring out the window, stuck in his thoughts; and Ron was just eating a ham sandwich. It was a very awkward silence now that Malfoy and Parkinson were there.

About ten minutes later, Parkinson had taken some parchment and a quill out of her bag and started writing, while Malfoy read a book on the history of powerful potions.

Later, Hermione cast a tempus charm and saw that they would be at Hogwarts in less than thirty minutes.

"We better change into our robes, we have under thirty minutes until we arrive." Hermione said. They all got their robes on and sat back down, but nobody noticed that Pansy dropped the parchment she had previously been writing on. Half an hour passed and everyone was getting off the train. Hermione was the last one in the compartment when she noticed a piece of parchment on the floor and picked it up. This must be Parkinson's. She thought, before reading the words written on the page. It was a poem, it read:

You hated your eye colour,
Called it a dull and dirty brown,
Wished for the deep blue of an ocean,
Where admirers hearts will drown,
And it pained me when i realised,
You'd never see it like I do,
The way your eyes hint at a story,
That I want to read right through,
They hold specks of stolen sunlight,
That you'd miss with just one glance,
And a depth of raw emotion,
That can freeze you in a trance,
They're a fix of melted chocolate,
When I'm craving something sweet,
But hold a gaze that's so unwavering,
That I find it hard to meet,
I fall right down the rabbit hole,
When I look into your eyes,
The brown of earth's unfettered beauty,
That I yearn to memorise,
When I was tired of not belonging,
They made me feel like i'd been found,
And I'd hope you never say again,
That your eyes are simply brown.

~Pansy

Hermione stared at the piece of parchment before saying "Wow." Really quietly under her breath. She heard the compartment door open and saw a black haired girl peek inside.

Hermione cheeks turned a light pink, "Oh-uh- hello P-Parkinson, I-I think you dropped this." She stuttered out of embarrassment for being caught with the parchment in her hand.

Parkinson blushed furiously. "You weren't meant to see that." She whispered so quietly that Hermione couldn't hear what she said.

"What was that?"

"Oh-er-nothing." Parkinson said, grabbing the parchment out of Hermione hands and speeding out of the compartment. The brunette stood there for a second, puzzled. She then snapped back to reality and realised she should probably get off the train.

In the great hall she kept glancing over at the slytherin table, tuning out the voices that filled the room.

"'Mione? Hermione? Anybody home?" A voice said, snapping their fingers and waving their hand in front of her face. She opened her eyes to see a certain red-head staring at her looking concerned, along with Harry.

"Right-um-sorry, I zoned out." Hermione said.

"Bloody hell, 'Mione, you scared me. Anyway, what you got on your timetable?" Ron asked.

Hermione looked at the page, it read:

Monday:
Muggle studies with Slytherin
Charms with Hufflepuff
Potions with Slytherin

Tuesday:
Arithmancy with Ravenclaw
Defence Against the Dark Arts with Slytherin
Transfiguration with Hufflepuff.

Wednesday:
Potions with Slytherin
Study of Ancient Runes with Ravenclaw
Astrology with Slytherin

Thursday:
Defence Against the Dark Arts with Slytherin
Arithmancy with Ravenclaw
Transfiguration with Hufflepuff

Friday:
Charms with Hufflepuff
Muggle Studies with Slytherin
Study of Ancient Runes with Ravenclaw

"We have most things together!" Ron exclaimed.

"Thats great!" Hermione said, and Harry nodded.

"Hello and welcome everyone, it's good to see you all again, and it's nice to meet you first years. Because of the war last year, some of the seventh years from last year will be re-doing their year. Before we start to eat, I would like to let all eighth years know that you will not be in your normal common rooms or dorms. You will be staying in one with all of you so you can get to know other people. The dorm placement sheet is in the common room on the table for when you get in. Now, feast!" Mcgonagall said, raising her hands making food appear on the tables.

Over at the Slytherin table a certain black haired girl couldn't keep her eyes off Hermione Granger.

"Pans?" Malfoy said, waving his hand in front of her face.

She got a little fright, but responded quickly. "Right, sorry."

"You okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine." She lied.
