Dell shuddered awake, the cold chill infused deep in his bones. Looking around there wasn't much to see.
It was a dimly lit corridor, the only illumination coming from one end of it. Far away he could see a light from an exit. Turning towards the darkness the corridor lead to though, Dell felt an unexplainable urge to venture forth.
Dell was never one for cold dark spaces and considering the rocky terrain of the tunnel that was barely big enough to stand in, Dell felt slightly claustrophobic.
Nevertheless the urge existed, as if there was a string connected to his chest pulling him towards the darkness.

Dell remembered his warm comfortable bed back home, his cushy comfort job as a cook and his girlfriend. All lovely things he'd prefer being around but in his heart he felt he was somewhere he should be. Weirdly enough that seemed like it was a dark tunnel below the earth's surface crawling deeper into the abyss. Although the thought didn't sit right with him Dell shrugged and crawled forward on his hands and knees into the darkness.

Dell counted the seconds. 1.. 2.. 100.. 1000. He lost track but kept crawling and the tunnel quickly become pitch black, leaving the light far behind. The only sound was Dell's rapid heartbeat and shallow breathing. Eventually the string pulling Dell into the darkness seemed to pull harder. Soon it pulled even harder as if it were pulling Dell to something particular.

After what must have been an hour, Dell could see a dim light far ahead and hear voices in that direction. Confused, Dell crawled faster.

Once  Dell reached the end of the tunnel and saw the exit, he realized to some extent what was ahead. Looking forward out of the tunnel were steps leading down towards a large oval rock that stood out of a cavern floor. In front of the rock were six other people all around 20 years of age. Dell himself was 24, so it wasn't surprising to him that his age was also around the same age.

The others hadn't noticed Dell yet but looking at the stone he saw words in another language he had never seen before, but they quickly blurred and appeared in English for Dell to read. Stunned Dell stared momentarily and whispered the word "magic", to himself.
