Mary smiles as she trails behind Ruth, walking slowly to the dining hall. Ruth turns around to look at Mary, and rolls her eyes.
Ugh! Youre so slow, she groans as she reaches out for Marys hand. She grabs her hand and pulls her along the long empty hallway. Mary blushes profusely and Ruth does the same.
The two girls walk into the dining hall, Mary gazing at the big, tall arched doors. Waiting for their dinner is a long line of girls, wearing a dark forest green plaid skirt and a black sweater.
Mary begins to feel insecure when she realises that shes the only one out of uniform. She sighs as she stands behind Ruth, in the long line of girls waiting for their dinner.
When the pair get to the front of the line, Ruth picks up a tray and Mary does the same. They move down the front of the dining hall and another short round lady serves them their bowl of food.
Ruth walks out of the dining hall and Mary follows, confused. Arent you supposed to eat in the dining hall?.
Ruth speed-walks down the long, empty, tiled corridor and opens a small wired door. She sneaks through it and Mary still follows, just as perplexed.
Ruth drags her feet through the dusty outdoors and walks up a small pathway leading into a forest. Mary trudges behind Ruth, out of breath. Ruth slumps down against a tree and begins eating her dinner.
So, Mary begins. Why are we here? she asks with a clueless expression masking her face. Ruth motions to Mary that shes got food in her mouth and cant talk. After minutes of silence, Ruth finally answers.
I come here every night by myself, but now I have someone to stargaze with, she grins suggestively. Mary feels a deep pit of butterflies emerge in her stomach as she eats with Mary. The pair finish their food and Ruth drags Marys arm again.
She brings her deeper into the forest and leans on a tree, looking at the stars. Mary smiles, looking deep into Ruths eyes. Ruth looks back at her and tucks a lock of hair behind Marys ear. Before they know it, Theyre both leaning closer, second by second. Ruth pulls Mary closer to her, closing the small gap between them. They both smirk, completely breathless from the others beauty. What did you think of the stars? Ruth whispers into her ear, still holding her face. Marys butterflies are uncontrollable now and she pulls Ruth closer to her again before answering. It was almost as stunning as you, She whispers back.
