A Love Story That's not Ours

“Haa haah…Sorry I’m late”

A girl with a high ponytail named Blair said while chasing her breath after she arrived at the rooftop by climbing a four story building.

“Blair, we’ve just finished eating lunch. What took you so long?”

“Nicole, don’t even try to lecture her after she ran all the way here.  At this very moment, her brain is probably struggling for air so I doubt anything we say will get there.” Pamela, a smart looking girl with long hair said as she faced a girl with medium length hair whose name is Nicole.

“Right, I forgot how bad she was with strenuous exercise that it even makes her brain stop working” Nicole replied while fixing her lunchbox.

“That’s so mean!!!” Blair exclaimed

“Hey Pam, her brain’s now working”

“Oh that was fast. That’s a new record Blair” Nicole and Pamela commended Blair while clapping their hands at the same time.

“Hey you guys are bullying Blair again” A guy who was just sitting at the corner spoke while still eating pizza. His name is Johannes.

“Jo! Thank God I have someone on my side” Blair said teary-eyed due to happiness.

“Who said I was?” Jo quickly uttered before taking his last bite at his pizza

“You guys are such bullies.” Blair finally concluded as she sat and started eating her lunch.

“It can’t be helped Blair, it’s because you look like you have an invisible “Bully ME” sign on your forehead which everyone can see except you.” Nicole explained

“And besides, us bullying you is a form of affection so you should really feel glad. It’s not like we’re hitting you with a whip.” Pamela added

“What sadistic affections you have.” Blair said while chewing her lunch making it barely audible for anyone to hear but herself. She then swallowed and began to properly talk.

“By the way, when I was climbing the stairs, I heard a little rumor.”

“Are you sure you weren’t eavesdropping?” Pamela interrupted.

“Shh! Let me speak for a while” Blair said quickly as she continued her previous topic

“The seniors were talking about a famous; let’s just say “Tradition” here at our school. It happens once in four years at least, and every year at most.”

“And? What’s this so called tradition?” Nicole curiously asked

“They said that, in every batch that a high school girl valedictorian and boy salutatorian is present or vice versa, something good will happen!!” Blair said with excitement and added

“That is, they will end up together!” She then raised both her arms in celebration

Pamela at Johannes stayed quiet after being surprised at what they’ve just heard while Nicole turned her head to their direction. After doing so, Nicole took their hands one by one and shook it.

“Congratulations Pam and Jo! You’re now leaving the NBSB slash NGSB circle otherwise known as the No Girlfriend or Boyfriend Since Birth circle!!”

While still shaking his hand, Johannes pulled it away from Nicole’s grasp and said

“Behave yourselves!”

“Ooooh you’re turning red!” Blair remarked

“By the way Pam, I’m going to the music store to listen to ROCKONE’s valentines special. You also like that band right? Why don’t you come with me?” Johannes said, ignoring Blair’s comment.
