*Please Note, I posted their story here so you don't have to search for it ;v; be warned though! This contains smut!*
At first, he thinks the alarm must be some sort of joke. Tomura hasn't been working at this facility for too long, but he's certain he's familiar with standard emergency protocol. However, the automated announcement blaring over the loudspeaker - accompanied by a shrill, intermittent alarm - has him thrown for a loop.
"Specimen D-A-3-1 has breached containment. Commencing lockdown in 90 seconds."
Curiously, the scientist pokes his head out of his small office, and sees a frantic plethora of his coworkers racing down the hallway.
Oh shit.
Tomura is immediately on his feet and scrambling to reach the exit. Mentally, he curses himself for accepting a position in an underground laboratory. Things would be far easier if he could climb out a window.
Then again, it's been easy to deduce that the company he's working for has taken on some classified projects, even if he isn't involved with them specifically. In that sense, it's perfectly logical for them to build a facility below ground.
Except for cases like these, of course.
"...60 seconds," the announcement reminds him, interrupting his thoughts.
"I know, I'm going!" Tomura yells to no one in particular, as he stumbles hurriedly through the building's labyrinthine tunnels.
As he's approaching the corridor with access to the elevator and stairs, he becomes acutely aware that there's smoke billowing in from under the connecting door.
Tomura groans. If there's a fire blocking the exit, he's fucked.
"...30 seconds," the announcement proclaims, as if mocking his peril.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck!" Tomura sputters, glancing around wildly to see if he can spot a fire extinguisher. Fortunately, he finds one almost immediately, and proceeds to grab it from its hook along the wall. Without wasting any time, he kicks open the offending door and begins spraying the device aimlessly.
He's not exactly adhering to fire safety standards, but Tomura isn't exactly thinking straight, either.
In the midst of his onslaught, the scientist takes a break to assess his success rate. Sure enough, it does appear that there was a small fire blocking the route, but his haphazard actions have more than taken care of it.
With a sigh of relief, Tomura drops the extinguisher and races for the stairwell - only for a metal grate to come crashing down and block his way.
The automated voice confirms his worst fear.
"Lockdown is now in effect."
He's too late.
Without a repetitious monologue or an ear-splitting alarm, the facility falls into an eerie silence. It's interrupted only by Tomura's own labored breathing, as panic truly sets in.
"Okay, just calm down," Tomura says to himself, in an effort to start thinking clearly. "Surely they wouldn't leave anyone behind down here. They have to come back for you at some point, right?"
His logic isn't very convincing. He knows damn well that if the company were legitimately concerned with evacuation, they wouldn't put a time stamp on it. No, there's something in here that they're trying to keep in here - likely the "specimen" the announcements had referred to.
And Tomura is the unlucky man who's been sacrificed for the cause.
Fuck.
Just as he's contemplating what this "D-A-3-1" could be, Tomura starts to hear heavy breathing that he realizes isn't his own.
