It's true, Maria Hill wasn't much of a field agent. She was better off in the hellicarrier or at shield hq, always there for director Fury. Today she was replacing Clint who had broken his ankle after accidentally falling out of a tree.
Everyone considered Hill a serious agent, always staying on task and never getting distracted but those who have worked closely with her knew that she was easily excited and was quite bubbly.....and this was exciting.
I wasn't a simple task but when you're replacing Clint Barton on the field you shouldn't expect it to be easy. The task was to infiltrate the enemies base and collect information. Ofcourse Clint was mostly used to spot people from far away so he had a partner, Natasha Romanoff and that is who Maria was working with.
The plan was to memorise the soldiers guarding schedule, take one down each, get into their gear ( which helpfully hides their faces ) and sneak into the core computer room with the soldiers keycard. Honestly, it was neither Maria or Natasha's fault that it didn't work, it was a lousy guard.
Natasha took down her guard who rounded the corner at exactly 3:30am like he was scheduled to. Natasha quickly contacted Maria to see if everything went as planned. "Hill? You ok?" Natasha asks into her earpiece. There was no answer for a few seconds. "Uuuh....there's nobody here." Maria responded nervously. Natasha frowned in confusion, she was sure that she memorised the schedule properly. "Ah shit, they rounded the corner up the hallway with a friend, they're walking very slowly and talking." Maria said with annoyance in her voice. Natasha sighed. "Lazy pricks.....just handle yourself ok? I have to get out of the hallways and into the suit. The lease be ok." And with that Natasha walked off to a storage room.
Maria rounded the corner to face the two soldiers. "Hi, ho easy on me, I'm not used to this." Maria says and pulls out a small pistol, shooting the soldier on the right. The other soldier comes up to her, grabs the gun and crushes it. Maria raises her eyebrows in surprise. "Wow you're strong." Maria says before tripping the soldier over and kicking his head hard so he blacks out.
Suddenly a loud stomping noise erupts from up ahead. Rounding the corner is a bunch of soldiers fully equipped with guns. Maria cringes. "Hi..." she says awkwardly before quickly ducking and holding the dead soldiers body up over her using it as a shield. She presses down on her earpiece. "There are a lot of them and this bullet proof armour is shit, I'm going to need your help Nat." Maria says while panting out of loss of breath.
Nat pulls the mask of her suit half way down and presses on her own earpiece to reply. "Ok, I have a plan just hold tight." She says and runs to her memory of Maria's location.
Maria struggling to hold the soldier up over the intense fire cringes when she hears a bullet wizz past her and she knows that the bullet proof armour the soldier is wearing is weakening. Suddenly Nat darts around the corner and throws a bomb at the group.
The blast was intense and took out most of the building but Nat and Maria were very much alive and that was a plus. A childish excitement arose in Maria and she grinned. "That was fucking awesome! I could kiss you right now!" She yelled while sitting in the rubble. Suddenly the weight of what she just said settled on her and she looked up at Nat with a red face. "But I mean- I won't-" Maria's sentence was cut off by Natasha grabbing her dusty face and kissing her.
Nevertheless, it was the best day ever.
