Katsuki put more effort than he thought he would into cleaning up his house for when Shoto would move in. The guest room the other male would be staying in hadn't even really been opened in a few months, since it wasn't in use very often, so he decided to do a full deep cleaning of it. He put almost just as much attention into the rest of the house as well. Admittedly, he hadn't done much cleaning in the past five months, between work and then lacking the motivation for anything else when he came home. Getting everything all cleaned up took a few hours over four days or so, given he didn't have much time at home anymore. Usually, his schedule involved going on a patrol, then going to visit Shoto, often still in his hero costume. Shoto was always happy to see him. Occasionally, he'd go in with other people as well, like Eijiro or Izuku, but for the most part he enjoyed talking to the other alone.
Soon enough, Shoto was deemed well enough to be let out of the hospital. Most of his questioning from the police had happened while he was in the hospital, so he wouldn't be having to do much of that when he moved in. Apparently, he had actually told them quite a bit during the questioning, but it was all classified information that the police couldn't share publicly. Shoto never brought it up with Katsuki, so he never bothered to ask. He figured he would hear about it when he had to know. If he never had to know, he decided on the day of Shoto's rescue that he would be fine with that.
Shoto arrived at Katsuki's house around midday, exactly two weeks after he was rescued. Katsuki had been sitting on his couch, a nervous pit in his stomach while he was waiting for the male to arrive. Soba was sprawled out on the cushion next to him, though the blonde didn't pay much mind to him. He felt sort of spaced out, or like he was going through some kind of out-of-body experience. The doorbell ringing snapped him back into reality. He practically sprung up from the couch, going to open the door. Soba was alarmed by the movement and noise, meowing and moving into a sitting position. Katsuki opened the door quickly, coming face to face with Shoto on the other side.
The split haired male still had a few bandages over minor wounds, most notably around his forehead and arms. He only had one over-the-shoulder bag on him, likely filled with clothes and a few small possessions. He likely didn't have much more than that back at his family house. It would've made sense if the family threw out or sold his old stuff for one reason or another. If they did keep a lot of it, Shoto probably just didn't want to bring a lot of it. Katsuki knew he thought of himself as more of a guest rather than a resident. He likely wanted to avoid feeling like some kind of burden by taking up a lot of room. He personally found the thought stupid and annoying, but he wasn't going to say anything.
"You have a nice house now," That was the first thing Shoto said as he came in. "I'm surprised you could afford it this fast."
"It's an average house," Katsuki raised his eyebrows. His house was probably just a bit bigger than what you'd expect from an average family, or something of the sort.
"If you were to look at all houses, maybe, but we've only been out of high school for a few months now," Shoto nodded slightly. "Buying your first house is usually something that doesn't happen until people are ready to start families and stuff."
"Well, heroes are overpaid, and apartments seem too cramped for me."
"You had a big house growing up, right?"
"My parents are fashion designers, that's a surprisingly well paying job, too."
"I know, that's sort of my point. You're not used to small living spaces."
"And you are?"
"I liked the dorms at school."
"That's different," Katsuki rolled his eyes. "The rooms there were huge, anyways."
"I guess so," Shoto nodded slightly. "Where's the room I'll be staying in?" Katsuki didn't say anything in response, just motioning for the other to follow him. He led Shoto to what was now his room, opening the door for him and letting him in.
"Make yourself at home, or whatever the fuck I'm supposed to say." Shoto put his bag down on the bed, turning to face the other with a small smile on his face.
"Thank you, really. This is perfect."
"It's not a big deal. I shoved you in my guest bedroom."
"You put a roof over my head, Bakugo."
"Consider it some kind of repayment, then."
"For what?"
"I probably owe you something from high school." Shoto stifled a laugh at that. "Come back to the living room when you're done unpacking, I'll show you where everything is."
"Alright, yeah," Shoto nodded at that. "Thank you again." Katsuki just rolled his eyes, leaving Shoto alone and moving back to the living room. It took Shoto around ten minutes to get fully situated before coming back out. By then, Katsuki had the TV on for background noise while he was playing with Soba. "Is that the infamous Soba?"
Katsuki jumped a small bit at the voice, looking back at the other male. He had a small smile on his face. Katsuki liked it. "It is," He nodded. Soba meowed softly when his attention stopped. "He says hi."
"Is he friendly?"
"He is when he's in a good mood," Katsuki hummed, resuming the pets he was giving the cat. "He's in a good mood right now."
"Can I pet him?"
"Come on over." Shoto moved over to the couch, sitting on the opposite side of Soba. He stared at the cat for a moment before reaching down and lightly scratching his back. He meowed softly again, turning his head to look at Shoto for a moment before standing up, rubbing his face against the split haired male's hand.
"Oh, he's so cute," Shoto gasped softly, moving to scratch the top of the cat's head. "You're never getting your cat back, Bakugo."
Katsuki simply shrugged. "This means he won't bug me when I'm in the middle of doing something."
"I will happily be your cat's distraction."
"Thank you."
"I bet he'll like me better than you by the end of this."
"The end of what?"
"Me living here?"
"Oh." Katsuki hadn't even really processed that this wouldn't be a permanent thing. It was a little surprising to hear Shoto was already thinking of when he'd move out. Katsuki wasn't offended or anything, just a bit surprised initially. "I'm gonna go make something for lunch. Want anything specific?"
"Cold soba?" The split haired male asked almost immediately. The cat he was petting seemed to perk up a bit at the sound of his name.
"I was planning on making that for dinner tonight. Anything else?"
"Oh, no, then. Thank you."
"I figured as much." Katsuki sighed, moving to the kitchen to start cooking.
