"Isn't this what you wanted...? Surely a being like you would."

The wind stilled. The quiet Autumn breeze rushing through the branches, making them crackle and dance in the night; all of it was gone, for this moment.

A lonely human, standing near a bench.

A lonely monster awakened by said human, soon to be a confused monster.

"Ugh...what's...huh? Kris??" Susie opened her eyes slowly and hazily, a very softly glowing yellow pair of glistening eyes quickly locking onto the quiet human. They were barely visible through Susie's hair, but here, in the dark, they stood out quite clearly.

Kris found themselves drawn in.

She is really pretty.

...seconds pass. The two stare at each other in silence. Kris with a dreamy expression, a swirl of unknown...things swirling inside them. Deep inside them, like a strange warmth emanating from a part they never knew was there. Susie, however, felt something much different; mainly confusion and a little bit of annoyance.

"...Kris...? What are you doing here...?"

Hearing that gruffy voice, the addressed human finally managed to focus their distraught mind, stuttering a bit and scratching their neck. They struggled to come up with what to say, so they settled in on being blunt and honest. The human slowly started explaining their adventurous day to the now sitting Susie, recalling what happened and trying not to sound too weird.

After Susie was caught up with what transpired, she rubbed her eyes groggily and yawned, clearly not very happy about being woken up out of nowhere like this.

"...ugh...so you really spent all day looking for me? You know you could have gone to the Dark World alone y'know. I'm not your babysitter." Susie proclaimed tiredly, her head in her hand as she was still half-asleep.

Kris shuffled awkwardly. They realized that Susie was under the impression they were searching for her all this time just so they could revisit the Dark World again. But she couldn't be farther from the truth.

The human was more than capable of going there. They were simply-

...worried...about......her?

Kris inhaled sharply. There It was again! That weird...thing in their body. It stemmed from their chest, and it was warm. Very warm. It didn't hurt, but...it was unfamiliar.

But...it was...nice.

For the first time, in almost their entire life...

Kris felt nice.

Susie happened to look over at that moment too. It was hard to see in the darkness, but she was almost sure she could see Kris smiling faintly. It looked quite adorable in her mind.

Wait what? Susie frowned at herself mentally. Did she really just think that to herself...? What is she, 12?? Calling someone like that...Especially a weirdo like Kris. She looked over directly, leaning back on the bench. She suddenly felt the need to change the subject.

"Welp, I guess you're curious what I was up to, eh?" Susie mentioned casually. Of course, this immediately grabbed the human's attention, who looked at the larger monster in intrigue.

"I guess I just kinda...didn't feel like going to school today. What? It's such a waste of time, sitting on your butt all day and listening to Bore-phys talk about crap you don't give a damn about." Susie lowered her slightly, looking at the grass beneath her.

"...I'm just still processing what happened. With the Dark World and everything...." Kris noted a very particular shift in the reptile's voice. It was much softer now.

"I mean, obviously it was some sort of dream, right? A whole world? In a closet? Right." Susie snickered angrily.

"...a whole world where magical toy creatures live...and friendship solves everything. Straight out of a damn kids book." Susie kicked the ground beneath her a bit, deep in thought.

Kris was unsure what to do.

"...but...you were there too. You saw it too, right?" Susie looked at the human, who nodded their head in agreement. This however, seemed to only deepen the large monster's distraught.

"I'm just- confused....and I hate that."

Another few seconds pass.

Kris still had their sights locked onto Susie, who had her head down in thought.

She did not answer the question. Not entirely. Where was she for the whole day...?

Kris continued to glare, and eventually Susie noticed. Not saying anything, she just raised her eyebrow; something Kris couldn't see under Susie's hair and the dark.

"What?!? Stop staring so much you weirdo."

...Kris looked away eventually. They had a felling pressing the matter won't yield more answers. That, or they were simply not brave enough yet to confront the monster. She was still...well, Susie. And you shouldn't mess with Susie.

Author's note:

Right, well...you probably didn't expect to see me again. And I'm sorry for two years of nothing. I guess I kinda moved on from Deltarune... but I always did mean to come back to this and finish it. I apologise for the short and probably boring chapter; I'm rusty as all hell, and I do hope to make more in the future.
