CHAPTER FOURTEEN
SHE COMES ALIVE

     SHE gasped.

Veronica hadn't expected anything to come of this night, she didn't expect to turn into some seductress who wanted someone so bad.

His lips were soft, and warmed her body all the way through. She felt her bones quiver, felt her legs go weak in the knees and was thankful she was held up by the arms otherwise she would've slid to the floor.

A tingling sensation ran down her spine and down to her center. Veronica's heart was racing as they locked lips, so much so that she forgot to do anything.

He'd pulled away after the quick second, but no matter how quick it was, Veronica could feel the imprint of his lips on hers as if time were slowed down, that it'd taken minutes instead of milliseconds.

Archie had taken a few steps back, putting space between the two of them, lips already forming an apology. "I'm s—"

"Oh shut up." She echoed and kissed him as he did her, only with more fire and want.

That fire reignited in her stomach and traced its hands over her full body. She wasn't just burning, she was aching and hungry. Hungry for the person that seemed to cause her butterflies, that made her blush despite witnessing a lot during her time in the city.

He made her feel alive again.

His body hit the wall, but he seemed to not mind as he and Veronica continued to kiss as their lives depended on it.

Veronica put her hands on either side of him, to stop herself from colliding into his forehead.

"You're a fiend Veronica Lodge." He'd mumbled against her.

She smiled, pulling back. "Then why do you sound so undone?"

"Because, you, are, a, fiend." He enunciated with a straight face.

But despite being so serious, she couldn't take him at his word. He looked like a toddler who's been out in the sun for too long with his red cheeks and swollen lips.

She giggled involuntarily.

His closed his eyes as he leaned back and stared up at the ceiling above and cursed under his breath, "You are the one who's going to kill me in the end with that laugh of yours."

"And why's that?"

"Because I could bottle it up and listen to it forever." He looked her in the eyes again, the sage of brown significantly darker than before. "I could get on high on you and I wouldn't quit."

"Then why don't you come and find out?"

"Is that a challenge?"

She shrugged. "Take it as you will Andrews, it's an opportunity. One you are wasting if I might add."

By the time she finished, he was already taking her by the wrist and dragging her into one of the spare bedrooms.

The door shut closed behind her with a satisfying click.

He stared at her, eyes seemingly lost and unfocused. "How about we take things slow?"

Not at all what she was expecting from him, but she nodded nonetheless.

Archie took her by the hand and dragged her softly to the bed.

Veronica hit the bed, hair hair bouncing and fanning out in dark silken waves.

"Like an angel."

She raised her brows. "Didn't you call me the devil not that long ago?"

He responded with a kiss to the underside of her jaw. "Don't be a smartass."

His nose nudged the side of her cheek as he leaned closer, his hot breath sending chills down her arms. "If you continue to speak that way I don't know how much longer I can control myself."

"And why is that such a bad thing?" She said in a softer tone, her own voice in his ear.

"Because we wouldn't leave this room, ever."

And though it sent a rather heated feeling down her body, Veronica latched a leg around his torso and rolled them over so now that he was the one of the bed.

Her thighs sat on either side of his torso, her body straddling his. Archie propped himself up onto his elbows.

She leaned down, lips dangerously close to his. "That's a promise I wish to see in the future Andrews."

Veronica pressed a hand to his chest, forcing him back down to the bed and kissed him again. This time slower, teasing. He responded to her kiss, matching her speed with one of his own. Until, she took pulled his lip between her teeth, biting softly as she pulled away.

He groaned at the sensation and let out a sharp inhale. "You're killing me."

"So you say."

She pulled back to see his eyes lidded closed, mouth parted, cheeks flushed high.

Veronica hovered over him, ebony strands of her hair falling to frame her face. "You look like you're already drunk on me," she whispered again. "Like you can't get enough. Who else makes you feel this way?"

"No one." He breathed out heavily.

"It's a good look on you Andrews. Being struck by something you know nothing about."

He pulled her down or the bed so she lay beside him now. Archie ran a hand down her leg and stopped at her ankle, fingers hooking on the heel of her shoe. He tossed them to the side, looking her in the eyes as he did.

"You better not have dented those." Veronica said, eyes half shut as she tried to focus on his face. She didn't know how tired she was all of a sudden. "Those are expensive."

"I'm sure they are, but they aren't you."

"How flattering." Her words didn't have the usual strength or bite.

"Ronnie." He said softly, the name sending flutters to her heart. "When was the last time you slept?"

"Last night, for two hours maybe."

"Completing homework I presume?" He asked, shedding her of the coat, comforter draping over her arms.

And soon enough, her eyes fluttered closed, his soft smile the last thing she saw before falling into one of the deepest sleeps she's had in a while.
