It's the smell of insecticide and the color white, again. Ni-Ki held out his hand and touches his head that has been cover in bandaid.
The wound that is caused by the accident is kinda serious, but luckily, it didn't affected his memory, on the other hand, he remembers things very clearly. It took 4 weeks for Ni-Ki to wake up after the accident, and in that 4 weeks, Sunoo's funeral has already been proceed, quick and simple, and now Sunoo is laying peacefully, under the cold ground.
And this is the third day after when Ni-Ki woke up. But he hasn't visited the grave yet, and maybe that's the last place on this earth he would want to come at.
-Are you awake? Have some soup.
Ni-Ki's mom has arrived, holding a box on soup on her hands. Ni-Ki doesn't care to look at her, he keeps on looking outside the window. His mom sighs, she opens and plate the soup out on the table. Since the day Sunoo passed away, he doesn't say anything, not even a word, he locked himself in the patient room and waiting for the day to get discharge. Ni-Ki's mom steps closer to him, holds his hand.
-Ni-Ki, please eat a bit, you're still very weak now.
-.........
-I know that you're in great pain right now, both physically and mentally, if Sunoo...
-Enough.
Ni-Ki pushes her hand out, turn around and takes his airpods to listen to music, leaving his mom heartbroken and looking at him.
But only after one week, Ni-Ki submitted the form to the receptionist and got discharge, and the first place he arrived after leaving the hospital, is their house.
The door is closed, Ni-Ki doesn't open it, he stands still there, like waiting for someone to runs out and opens the door, but, there's no one in the house.
crack
The door opens, the living room pops up in Ni-Ki's eyes, nothing has changed, they're still at the position they used to be at. The bag of snack that haven't been fully eaten, the TV remote that's lying on the floor, in the kitchen there's a pile of dirty dishes that haven't been washed, the comic book that has been bookmarked is there on the couch, everything is still the same, like when Sunoo was here...
Ni-Ki steps slowly, the house that once was filled with laughs and joy, is now echoing the sounds of the cold footsteps. Ni-Ki looks around and sits down on the couch, the soft scent passes by, it's the scent from Sunoo's hair, Ni-Ki stops for a second, he looks next to him, nothing. He holds his hand tight, Ni-Ki lays down, he remembers, that Sunoo often sleeps here and waits for him to come home.
-Sunoo, I'm here.
Ni-Ki holds his left chest and whispers, his eyes are closed, tight. He doesn't wanna look at the reality now, he doesn't want to believe, and he doesn't want to accept the truth.
ring..ring..
The doorbell suddenly rings, Ni-Ki sits up, a bit of hope inside him shines, he quickly runs to the door and opens it.
-Joe...
Behind the door, is an unfamiliar face. A man wearing a fancy pair of glasses smiles with Ni-Ki and gives him his business card.
-How lucky, at last I met you, hello, I came here for discussing and signing the contract to sell this house.
Seeing the guy in front of him doesn't wanna let him to go in the house, the man quickly steps into the main reason he came here.
-Your wife, Kim Sun Woo, he had done all the steps and submitted to our office a month ago, and now we only need your signature, then everything is done.
He gives Ni-Ki a gold file and bents down as a goodbye, Ni-Ki takes the file, closes the door and throws the file on the coffee table. He doesn't want to sell this house away, this is the only place that he could keeps it, he can't sell this.
"This place is filled with memories, but, this house...might have gotten too tired of becoming somewhere that contains too much old memories. I sold it away, for it to become somewhere else to hold more new memories, for an another kid like me to experience the happiness of living in this house, like I use to."
"You, and this house, for me, seems like a fairy tale."
The old memories and sentence Sunoo said pops up in Ni-Ki's mind, at that moment, Ni-Ki doesn't think much about what Sunoo said, but maybe now, he understands, that day, when Sunoo talks about this house, he was talking about Ni-Ki, he wanna sell this house, for cuz of Ni-Ki, so Ni-Ki wouldn't be lost in the old memories anymore. Though he knows that, but the both of them are stubborn, like each other, they will always be determined to do what they want, so Ni-Ki has his own way of thinking, and if he doesn't want to sell this house, he would never sign that contract.
Ni-Ki hates this way of thinking, but he knows what's best for himself, he doesn't want to be forced by others, even if it's Sunoo.
Feeling angry and confused, Ni-Ki throws the TV remote and the gold file down on the floor, he stands up and steps to the window.
-You, don't have the right to do this to me.
Sunoo always does what he wants to, and that made Ni-Ki falls in love with him but something it also annoys him. Maybe Sunoo really is his enemy, he isn't here, but he could make Ni-Ki mad easily. But in fact, the madness is only a fog to hide away the pain that's growing bigger and bigger inside Ni-Ki, he knows that Sunoo is not wrong, sooner or later, he would be lost and dies slowly in old memories like this house, but how can Ni-Ki accept to sell away the most beautiful and happy things of his life?
Ni-Ki wanna keeps this all, he wants to save all of this, to wait, for the day Sunoo come back.
Ni-Ki holds his head, the old wound starts to hurt, suddenly the pain disappear when a familiar voice came up.
-Riki...
It is Sunoo's voice...
