Today I moved in to a new town. Mainly out of morbid curiosity. Apparently, the town has plenty of weird people, and I really wanted to see what was going on. So I packed my bags and moved away from my life in the city to enjoy a life in a small town.
Once I got situated, I decided to take a walk and look around the neighborhood. It was delightfully old-timey. A lot of 80s and 90s aesthetic. Eventually, I decided to sit on a bench and close my eyes. It was pretty early in the morning, so I hadn't really seen many people. Suddenly, something slammed down on the seat next to me. After I heard the loud bang, my eyes shot open. It was a big, yellow hand, about the size of my torso, and the arm lead back to a small, yellow creature. Her head was a perfect circle, and she had a messy ponytail. Her face was simple and tiny, with her eyes being two straight lines with a single blue eyelash on each. Her cheeks were stroked blue, like war paint, and she had a big smile. As I looked down, her torso was small, and she worse a small blue dress. Her legs weren't amazingly long, but were about the size of her torso. She had only one arm, being longer than her body.
"Hi~..." She said with a high-pitched, almost silly tone. I looked at her with wide eyes. What even was she? Still, I couldn't help but glare, since she scared the piss out of me. "Why'd you slam your fist at me??" I asked, looking her straight in the eyes. She frowned for a moment. "I've been trying to get your attention for a few minutes now!" "I haven't heard anything," I responded back. She puffed her cheeks as she answered back "I was waving to you!" And began to tap her fingers on the seat. "My eyes were closed, I couldn't see you," I said, grabbing her hand and slowly taking it off the seat. It felt firm, like she could crush me in an instant. Yet oddly comforting.
"Ah. Right. My fault... Excuses me. I wanted to say hi, since I don't recognize you. My name is Doppler! What's yours?" She said with a smile again. I wondered for a moment if she talks to EVERY person she doesn't know, but still, I told her my name. "Ahhh.... That's a funny name! You definitely aren't from here!" She beamed, putting her hand over her mouth and giggling. "Anyways, I'm late for work!" She exclaimed, which threw me off.
She was small, barely 3 feet, so I couldn't picture her working a job. "What job do you work??" I asked, incredibly curious. "Oh, I work a lot of jobs. Once I was a fireman. Oh, once I was on TV once, too! I was a Mariachi for two days, and I did construction for a month!" She began. After that, though, I tuned out. She kept going. Baseball, dancing, bartending, just a few of the many she mentioned. A lot of small jobs for small pay makes sense since she's so... Small.
"What about today?" I asked, cutting her off from continuing forever. "Oh, today I'm gonna kickstart my rap career!" She answered enthusiastically. She was a bizarre thing, that was for sure. "Good luck. Tell me when you get that gold record," I said, flipping a thumbs up. She looked at me for a moment before glaring. "Sarcasm is unbecoming of you!" She said, before walking away. Even when she's mad, she's super cute. I really hope I get to see her again. Doppler was her name, and it sounded familiar. I still don't quite remember from where, but I've heard of her from somewhere before. It's a relatively closed community but it's not hard to believe that, with as much as she's working, she would become known outside.
I got up and went into the middle of town, where all the shops were. I looked at each shop, and decided to go to the music shop. I needed new CDs and I might as well buy some. I entered, and the first thing I saw were the rows of CDs and records stretching well to the back of the store. There were plenty to walk through, but something else also grabbed my attention. The counter, more specifically, which had another strange creature behind it. She was tall, a little taller than me. She was turned around, but her head was also a circle, but more of a plasticy red. She had a wavy blue cloth around her neck, and she was wearing a black shirt. She had a skirt, which was also blue. Her skin was grey, and her hands were strange and way more life like than her. And at the top of her head were two lightbulbs that almost looked like hair buns.
