"I just don't know what to do anymore", I said. It was the first day of my sophomore year in high school. The sun was out. The sky was the perfect shade of blue with a few clouds. The grass was the brightest green. I was wearing short shorts with my favorite white top and my black converse. My long, brown hair was completely straight and my American Eagle sunglasses laid on the top of my head. As of right now, my best friend, Ashley, and I were sitting under our favorite tree during our lunch period. She had long, blonde hair, blue eyes, pale skin, literally the complete opposite of me. She had some kind of white cardigan on, with a teal tank top under it and leggings.
"Don't know what to do about what?", a familiar voice said. He was wearing a black beanie with his dark brown hair spiked up in the front. He had a white v-neck on that showed off his tan skin and made his muscles stand out... alot. His jeans were faded and his black converse were already starting to get dirty. His name was Ben. He was the captain of the school's soccer team, and definitely the most popular kid in school.
"Is it really any of your business?", I snapped back. You see, me and him are actually best friends... We're just EXTREMELY rude to each other.
"I don't know. You tell me", he said back.
"Anyways, Ben, this is Ashley. Ashley, this is Ben."
"Oh! So you're Ashley. I've heard a bunc-"
"Hey, babe", my boyfriend, Justin said as he put his arm around me. He had bright blonde hair, tan, brown eyes, co-captain of the soccer team... Yeah... We've been dating for about a year and a half. He was basically wearing what Ben was wearing, except it was a red v-neck and grey tennis shoes.
I quickly grabbed his hand and removed it from my waist. "Do not call me babe", I said to him. He smirked and leaned into kiss me. I placed my hand on his chest and pushed him back a little.
"What is your deal?!", he whisper yelled.
"You know I hate being called babe, and kissing in front of my friends!"
"You act like you don't even want to be with me."
"I've always acted like this! You're the one thats chang-"
"Guys, as much as I love hearing you kids bicker... It's annoying. So stop", Ben interrupted. I flashed him an apologetic smile and ate my lunch in silence. About five minutes of just sitting there a group of girls came by... of course.
"Hey Justin. Ben.", the "leader" started out, "Want to come sit over with us?". Justin turned and smiled at me as I blankly stared at him. I knew what he was going to do, I was just hoping he wouldn't.
"Of course", he replied still staring at me.
"Great! What about you, Ben?". I saw him look over at me from the corner of my eye. I didn't want to make eye contact with him, or to pity me in any way.
"Nah, I'm good where I am. Thanks", he said leaning back on his hands and smiling at them.
"Alright, maybe another time.", she replied smiling. Ben just nodded in reply.
I felt him get real close to me as he said, "Can I talk to you?". I just nodded, still avoiding eye contact. He got up to his feet and extended his hand to me. I didn't take it. Instead, I just got up by myself, put my bag on my back, and started walking into the school.
I kept walking, knowing sooner or later he'd catch up. I felt him grab my hand and pull me into the janitors closet. I glared at him. "What are we doing in here?"
"Why do you let him treat you like that?", he snapped back, harsher than normal.
"I don't know what you mean", I said back quietly, looking at the ground.
"He's been doing it since the end of last year, Taylor! Why don't you just leave him?"
"I don't want to?"
"I saw the look in your eye when he left. That really hurt you didn't it"
"No. I don't care"
"You're lying"
"No, I'm not! He can hang out with whoever he wants! I really don't care!", I slightly yelled back at him. Then, he did something I never thought he would do. He hugged me. I stood there shocked for a couple of seconds before I hugged him back. We just stood there like that for a couple of seconds, before I pulled away. "We should probably get back before they start assuming things", I awkwardly laughed.
"I agree", he said while doing the same awkward laugh. "You go out first. Meet me by the door". I nodded and did exactly that.
