Chapter Three
Kathryn's Point of View:
"Have you ever been to New York before this?" Justin's voice rang in my ears as we walked through the busy streets. I almost could not hear him from all of the noise from cars, bikes, and others talking so loudly.
"No," I answer simply, pausing trying to find the spot I was looking for. "Have you?" I try my best to keep the conversation going while focusing on my phone.
"I went here once with my Mom," he seems to be smiling. "It was fun and -"
"- There it is!" I exclaim, pointing at the end of a street corner. I look to him with a smile but I notice he is frowning at me. "Sorry," I mutter, looking away from him. He starts to laugh it off.
"There's what?" he asks, his voice dripping with curiosity and wonder.
"The book store," I say cheerily and he begins to laugh again. I glance up at him and I can tell he is judging me. "Hey, I need them for school," I retort quickly. He gives me a smirk before nodding understandingly.
My feet pick themselves up and I feel him following me close behind of me. After trying my best not to get run over, we successfully make it to the store that reads; 192 Books. I open the vintage looking door and I am immediately hit with the smell of paper. A lady who seems to be in her thirties greets us kindly.
"Welcome to One Ninety-Two Books, can I help you with anything?" she smiles at the both of us curtly.
"Um, not yet, but thank you," I smile back to her and I feel Justin's body right behind of me. I take a moment to look around and observe the small store. It reminds me of a library.
I pull out my phone and go to my notes app which has the books I need. So far, I need three covering Broadcast News, Marketing, and Television Communications. I internally groan as I think of how much they will end up costing.
I notice Justin has wandered off, looking at a few magazines. I decide to go look without him and I go down an isle that reads; Textbooks and More. Seemed like a good place to start to me. I see so many thick books with hard covers that makes me want to throw up. From Advanced Statistics to Chemistry, I see it all. Except for journalism.
"Kathryn," I jump at the sudden voice behind of me and I turn around to find Justin.
"What?" I ask him, still focusing on looking at each row of books.
"I found the journalism stuff over here," he says and my head snaps towards him. A smile plays on his face as motions me to follow him. And just as he said, he did in fact find the journalism books.
"Thanks," I say gratefully and I spot one of the books I need immediately. I reach down and pick it up, checking the price and for some miracle reason, it is on sale for only thirty dollars.
