Misfits Series #2: Clear Your Heart

[PROLOGUE]

Everything was normal, at least, not until . . . they saw it.

Years ago, I’ve lost people who’s been with me for years in a day . . . I’ve lost everyone, they left because they can’t accept that piece of me, I shouldn’t even call them my friends, funny . . .

“Ano ‘yon?! Kadiri naman!” sigaw ng kaibigan ko matapos buklatin ang aking buhok kasabay ang pag-tulak niya sa akin sa sahig.

Lumapit siya sa kaniyang katabi at ipinahid ang kamay niya sa uniporme nito, sabay silang sumigaw na dahilan ng biglaang pag-dami ng tao na pumalibot sa akin, they screamed louder and louder letting the whole school know. “What’s that! Get away from me, she might be infected, that’s disgusting!”

They formed a circle around me, my friends . . . murmured, staring at me disgusted, leaving words that I never thought I would hear . . . from a friend.
“She’s disgusting!”

“You shouldn’t be friends with her, I mean look at her!”

“What a freak!”

I never thought I would be disgusted at myself, I felt so low . . . It felt like it’s too much, isn’t it already too much that I’m starting to hate myself? Isn’t that enough? Aren’t they satisfied?

Tumayo ako hawak-hawak ang sarili ko at sinubukang lumapit sa kanila at bumulong, “Bakit?”

Is there something wrong with me? What’s wrong? ’Cause I remembered that day, when you were at your worst . . . I was there beside you, but what about me?
Ngunit sa bawat hakbang ko papalapit ay lumalayo sila, tumingin sila sa isa’t isa ng may pag-aalinlangan. “Ah, Akira? Siguro ’wag ka na lumapit sa amin baka kasi—”

Before you saw this . . . it was perfectly fine, we cherished each other just like how any friends would do pero hanggang dito lang ba yung abot ng pagka-kaibigan natin? Dahil lang dito, wala na?

Maybe that’s why people tried their best to hide their flaws, masking themselves; building a perfect act just to be accepted, no one wants to lose their friends but if they can’t see you for who you are . . . how can you still call them your friend?
