The steady click of my heels rang around me, reflecting off the dark walls surrounding me, mirroring the darkness dipping the world arond me in a cold black. I felt as though I could see everything and the same time, nothing at all. The windows kept haunting me, the portraits, aligned in a perfect straight line, watching me as the shadows behind me followed my every step. I knew he was there, waiting behind that heavy oak door. I could _feel_ him, his dominating presence, those gleaming, yellow eyes looking down on me. I pushed the door open, leaving all my fear behind, in that one part of me deep down that I could never show anyone. Never show *him* .
Our eyes met, locking me in a silent battle I was too prideful to ignore. I knew it was just entertainement to him, yet to me it was what kept me alive. The fight. the struggle not to be owned by him completely."It's alright", I tell myself, eyes still locked on his, desperately holding on to dignity.
"I saved my kingdom, the deal is done, he has nothing on me now... Exept my hand in marriage"
"There you are, *dear* ", he said in a soft voice, a light chuckle escaping his lips as he turned his gaze away from mine.
I gave him a cold smile as reply, not even bothering to pretend as though I enjoyed his presence.
I kept my hands from shivering as I told myself that there was nothing to be afraid of, that he cannot hurt me now.
Seemingly unfazed by my silence, he gestured for me to follow him into the next room, where a board meeting with the highest nobility of both our kingdoms awaited us. I watched the light dance on the skin of his hand, playing with the shades of the muscles and tendons. I wondered what kind of play this cool glow of the castle might play on the shapes of his back if he were to remove his stiff jacket. Even through the thick material of his formal uniform I could see the result of regular physical labour. "After all even a King needs to be able to protect himself", I thought. The meeting would be my first official appearance as the wife of the king. As his Queen.
I wouldn't show any weakness. I was as powerful as him, here. Straightening my back I walked beside him into the bright room looming before me. As the doors swung open, the white light threatened to drown me, the shouting of servants announcing our presence ringing in my ears. Once I fully regained my senses, the king had already taken his seat at the end of the table. He waited for me to sit down on the chair beside him, but I had a different plan in mind. A way to assert my dominance right here in front of all these people watching.I slowly made my way toward the seat of the king. I knew he would not push me away.
It was better to appear bold an intimate, rather than distant, with a strained relationship and he knew that as well as I.
Once I arrived at my destination, I placed my hand on his cheek, a tingling feeling spreading from my fingertips all the way through my hand and arm.
I felt the eyes of everyone in the room fixed on me as I traced my hand over his neck, to his shoulder.
He looked up at me, face calm as always but I could see the curiosity in his eyes.
They were a tiny bit wider than usual and this exited me even more. I slowly sat down right on his lap, my eyes still focused on his expression. I could feel his strong thighs beneath me, more comfortable than I had initially imagined.
A few shocked whispers filled the room but that didn't interest me. For a short moment I could see his composure slip.
His mouth slightly opened and his brows raised in surprise. The satisfaction tasted sweet on my tongue, yet I wasn't satisfied.
I slowly moved my head closer to his, my lips barely brushing his ear and whispered: "I hope my presence won't be too distracting for you, *dear* ."
