Chapter 1

A sat on my windowsill while all my thoughts spill out onto paper. I admire the view out of the window not far behind our garden. As my eyes wandered, I accidentally made eye contact with him. Elio Dion or I like to refer to him as the worst thing to ever happen to me. After an awkward amount of time passes he looks up at my window again which resulted in me panicking and falling off the windowsill. Ouch...

As I lie in bed I can't stop thinking about the incident from this evening. Even though it was nothing but an accidental stare, why was he looking in my window? I guess he could say the same thing about me looking at him which, in my defence, wasn't even my fault. Let me introduce you to Elio. First of all, I, unfortunately, have the pleasure of living next door to him which means even if I wanted to, I couldn't avoid him. His parents know mine very well, so much that they're practically best friends: couldn't say the same for me and Elio. Elio is just your average cocky teenage boy who only cares about soccer and being shitty to everyone he isn't attracted to; it amazes me how girls fall head over heels for him.

"Esme! It's your turn to take the trash out!" I forgot about that. While I was at the door, I heard some voices outside. I hesitate to open it...I did anyways. I glanced around only to find out those voices was Elio and his friends, great. I wish he never lived here. My pace quickened as I tried to go past them unnoticed which was unsuccessful as I heard their whispers.

"Isn't that Esme Evans?"

"You live next to her?"

I tried to forget the embarrassment of what has just happened as I make my way up to my bedroom. I don't even bother changing I just wanted to lie down and never wake up. Because that would result in another day of suffering at school.

I wake up the next morning to the unbearable screeching of my alarm. My hand finally found its way to the off button as I groan and wipe my eyes. Little did I know I'd clicked the snooze button three times. What you don't know yet is that I've only lived here for a short period of time so I haven't really been to school yet and unfortunately, neither has Elio but not for the same reasons. Elio never actually goes to school very often but when he does it's a really odd celebration and the girls are always all over him. I would feel bad but I really praise them for making him suffer.

I throw on a white blouse with a cute, vintage jumper on top and some baggy jeans, just because it's cold and rush out the door. Even though I was late, it was my lucky day because this was one of the rare days Elio was at school and his mum usually tries to convince me to ride the way there with him. No thanks. I start powerwalking down the street as I hear a car pull up at the side of me.

"I hate to be the one to say it but it's cold out you can't walk all the way to school in this weather. It's going to start raining soon can you just get in the car?" I ignore him and carry on but sooner or later I give in and get inside.

I don't have a car as my family aren't exactly as privileged as Elio's so I usually catch the bus which, as you guessed, my lazy ass missed. I try not to say anything because I'd rather not talk to a twat like him but of course he had to break the silence.

"A thank you would be nice."

"Nope sorry we're all out of those today buddy," I replied.

"Do you always feel the need to be an uptight bitch when I'm around?" I don't respond and instead of comforting silence, now is just awkward silence. The sigh that left my mouth was a bit too loud when we arrived at school though.

"Jeez my driving isn't that horrible is it?"

I simply just gave him the finger and walked away into hell or what is otherwise known as SCHOOL. I felt some eyes piercing into me as I walked into the building but I just assumed it was because everybody forgets I go to this school.  As I haven't been here long I don't really know anyone which means I'm that one girl that nobody really knows, of course, other than Elio but that's because he's my neighbour. Because I don't socialise at school that means I don't have any friends so if I died I guess no one would really know about it. Nothing interesting usually happens at school as I get on with my work and go home. The only interesting part is the occasional taunting and harassment I receive from the lovely Elio and his soccer teammates. I know it's a bit of a cliche that there's always that one girl in movies that sits by herself at lunch and never has friends and all of a sudden gets with the also cliche "bad boy" who is just an arse with daddy or mommy issues.

But nope. Not my life never will be and I will be happy for it to stay that way. It didn't take me long to let what just happened this morning settle in...I've just made a huge mistake. I.Rode.Into.School.With.Elio... But it's fine it's just because we're neighbours right? He was just being a normal person which is, odd, but it's normal... it's fine...I'm fine. Oh god, what the fuck have I done?

Maybe not that people noticed right? Wait- that's why they were looking at me- SHIT! I can easily explain myself because I hate him anyways I don't think anyone would assume that someone like ME could ever be good enough for him. I do have to admit that even though I hate him with a passion, he is quite attractive. That doesn't mean I'm attracted to him I just think that he is not too horrible to look at. I was suddenly distracted from my thoughts by a tap on my shoulder. It Mr Colton asking me to come to his office. It's probably just another attempt to get me to speak more in class and to actual people at school.

"I have a small favour to ask you and you don't really have a choice because everyone else possible turned it down." Oh god, this doesn't sound like the usual persuasion techniques.

"Yes sir?" I swallowed as much saliva as possible I was that nervous.

"Are you familiar with the student Elio Dion?" My mind wants to say no but I'm curious to know what he wants.

"I've heard of him but we don't really speak."

"Well, as he isn't in school often he is behind on work and we would exclude him however because he is our best soccer player, we need him and can't afford to lose one of our best players. So we asked some people to tutor him however they turned it down, and you have good grades so you're our last option."

"You want, me, to tutor...that thing."

"Hey, you do know I can hear you from outside the door! And for your information, I don't want someone like you tutoring me either." A voice spoke from outside. I gave him a death glare, I would rather not waste my time trying to teach him anything- I'm just saying, but dogs learn better.

I eventually gave in and it's scheduled that I tutor him either at the school library or at either one of our houses tomorrow...great. To be honest I didn't really imagine spending my spare time trying to teach a delinquent.
