"Duh, she's gonna be there" He stated annoyingly,
"she's always there, she's the assistant general.""Well I know that. I meant, be there, be there. You know, how, she's always zoned out, in her own bubble." I garble, speed walking to keep up with my brothers long strides.
"Oh, in that case, probably not."
"Damn" I mumbled.
We stepped through the main city gates, being welcomed back with smiling faces, nodding heads and groups of waving hands.
I always loved the main city while growing up, I thought it was amazing and awe-inspiring. Now, its just run down, beat up piece of land fighting to stay there. But To be completely honest, I love it more now.
The buildings, decaying and broken down, but being held up and supported by the growing trees and nature. The people, wounded, always fighting, but always happy to help and never giving up in the fight to triumph in the war
Everything.
Except the fights that occur randomly.
"Thought I told you to get lost!"
He came barreling at me, knocking the both of us onto the ground.
"Hey man! What the hell!" he shouted, still on top of me.
"Get the hell off of me" I snarled, shoving him off.
He hit the dirt and scrambled to his feet.
I stood up, dusting off the dirt and grass from my jeans."What the hell is your problem?" I shouted, pointing to the man that fell on me.
"I- she- ugh!" he grunted and kicked the dirt.
"I'll tell you what his problem is,"
A familiar voice piped up from around where he was thrown.
"He just got his ass beat by a girl." a red-headed woman stepped foreword.
Her loose denim jeans creased and folded as she walked.
As we made eye contact, her emerald eyes lit up and a smile spread wide on her face.Carrie.
I smiled "nice to see yo-"
"Winston!" Carrie laughed "it feels like its been forever."
She sprinted over to him, and embracing him in a hug. The man she had beat up took this as a chance to run.
"Hiya, Caroline" He patted her back. "What have you been up to?"
"Not much, just workin' I guess." She stepped back.
They stood talking for a moment.
I had my hands in my pockets, watching a worm slide back into the ground when she finally noticed me again."Oh! hey Damari, how are you?" The corners of her lips turned up into a small smile.
To which I reciprocated.
"I'm good." The small smile slowly fell, not enough for her to notice."Well good, we should get going. The meeting should be starting soon." She turned on her heel, and began walking to the building. ( a/n: I don't know what to call this building so bear with me)
We follow in suit.
Winston and I discussed different sets of plans for the next mission, Carrie chimed in on some. When we reached the building the sky had already begun to darken.
We stepped inside.Everyone was huddled over the huge map on the table, sometimes they took turns saying ideas, most of the time they shouted over one another, so no one heard us enter.
Carrie slammed the door shut, causing everyone to jump."Whoa now, don't stab anybody" she chuckled, noticing most people pulled out knifes.
"Alright, Lets get down to business"
