Chapter 1

Taehyung remembers his eighteenth birthday clearly. Who wouldn’t when that’s the day you figure out what you live for? It was exactly seven years at this point, and as he gazes down at the letter in his hand, he feels his anxiety amplifying. He stares down at the small ink imprinted on the paper, barely even forming a sentence. The words /decapitation; Seoul national racetrack; car 7/ glaring back.

He blinks at the words, his mind racing as it always does when he looks at it, he doesn’t understand how the /hell/ someone gets decapitated while driving a racecar, and why /he/ was the one stuck with a soulmate who was dumb enough to /allow/ that to happen. He looks over at the letter again, eyes catching on the new words added to the bottom. It’s not a lot, but the few characters he sees are enough to send him spiralling in the feeling uselessness. /01/04/2021 9:47 pm/

That’s /four/ fucking days away. Not only does Taehyung live in fucking Daegu which is three hours away /without traffic/, he also doesn’t have money for a fucking ticket to a /race/. He squeezes his hand shut, crumbling the letter’s corner, and flops face-first into the throw pillow on his lap and groans loudly.

Jimin snickers, “What’s making you break down this time? Did your boss hit on you again? Oh, did they mess up your order at mcdonalds again? I told you to stop going to that one, they never get the orders right, not to mention their soda is always way to watered down.” He rambles, trying to find the space for his puzzle piece, “Bitch, help me! My eyes are tired and I can’t find it!”

Taehyung sighs and sits up, leaning forward to grab the piece his best friend is holding out, “Neither of those this time, however, yesterday i did go to that Mcdonald's again, and they forgot to cook my fries.” He finds the place of the piece as Jimin stares at him, “How the fuck did they- You know what, I’d be better off not knowing. What’s the issue this time, then? Tell Papa Jimin.”

Taehyung curls his lip, “You’re repulsive and I want to request a change in best friends.” Jimin reaches forward to smack him, “Shut up and tell me your problem, ugly.” Taehyung sighed and slid off the couch, his butt hitting the floor with a slight thump, “My letter updated. Soul letter 2.0 new release.” He muttered.

Jimin rolls his eyes, “First of all, it’s not a fucking app. Second of all, why the fuck didn’t you tell me?” He crawls around the coffee table towards Taehyung, and lays across his lap, ignoring the others' complaints. He picks up his left arm and painfully pulls Taehyung;s fist apart to get the letter, and analyzes it, “Whoa, bitch that’s in like...l don’t know, three days?”

Taehyung shoves him away, “It’s four days, you turd. We’re celebrating my fucking birthday by doing an amazing fucking puzzle and you don’t even know what the date is. Despicable.” Jimin rolls over from his spot on the floor, “I know what day it is, jerk, I just fucking suck at counting.” He sits up and blinks at him, “So what’s the game plan? Gonna crash one of the biggest races of the year?”

Taehyung looked at him in confusion, “What do you mean biggest?” Jimin adjusted himself and rolled his eyes, crawling back towards the table to continue working on their puzzle, “It’s the first race in the Seoul Race track In the year 2021. This race is going to be the most anticipated because it’s the first win of the year. That’s a title every racer wants.

(don’t @ me i don’t know shit about racing and all that)

Taehyung huffs and sits back, “It’ll be talked about for a whole different reason if i don’t figure out a way to get the fuck in there. Why can’t I just know his name? That would make things so much easier. Or why couldn’t /he/ be the one that had to save /me/?” He lets his head fall back heavily to rest on the couch.

Jimin rolls his eyes and reaches to grab his toe, and twists it painfully, making Taehyung shout,
“You small elf looking bitch!” Jimin glares at me, “Shut up and listen to me. Yes it’s true that it’s kind of unfair that only one of you have to be the one to do the saving, because that’s a lot of fucking pressure, especally since it’ somone you don’t know, however, think of it this way.”

He scoots around to be able to look Taehyung straight in the eye, “Your soulmate is the person who is /literally/ made for you. That person is going to be the only one that can make you feel truly happy and complete and vice versa. They may not be the one saving you from your impending doom, but they have to be out there with the knowledge their going to die some crazy ass death not knowing when, and having to rely on someone they don’t fucking know, to do all they can to save them. They have to trust in the fact that a stranger who got a letter with their shit on it, will actually pull through for them and save them.”

Taehyung stares at Jimin with his mouth hanging open. “Dude, where the fuck did that rant come from?” Jimin is huffing after his speech, and glares at his friend,”That doesn’t fucking matter. You’re going to save your soulmate.”

Taehyung sighs heavily, “I never said i wasn’t, stupid. I just have no idea how i’m supposed to get a ticket to a race that’s in four fucking days.” Jimin rolled his eyes and pulled out his phone, “It’s really hard being the pretty /and/ smart one.” He mumbles. Taehyung ignores him with a roll of his eyes, and continues the puzzle. “Well any ideas you have, please share cause i’m lost.”

“I’m going to post on facebook. Something about ‘So that race is coming up soon! Anyone going?’ and since my dad’s weird friends felt the need to add me a while back, i’m sure at least five of them are going to the race.” He clicks his phone off after posting and turns to look at Taehyung, “Now can we finish this beautiful fucking puzzle as we wait?”
