"Rise and shine Children!"
Disgruntled mumbles heard from the sack-sacks in the corner of the hometrain. Conductor Dawson had many good traits, but her ability to mirth in the morning wasn't one of them.
Marina prepared herself for the merciless sunlight as the carriage slowed down.
Even though it was only 4 AM, five of the nine members of her unit were dressed in the wonderous society's uniform and about to climb off the red wagon out to Wunsam. None of them were very happy about it and everyone- except the white haired Dmitri Blair, who seemed to be the only one who handled the situation well- had decided to take the trip's ten minutes to nap. Those ten minutes had gone faster than expected and the teens had slowly begun to crawl up on their feets."
"Come on kids, you've got enough sleep for tonight !"
Conductor Dawson slammed two biscuit tins at each other.
"That wasn't sleep," Marina said, covering her ears, "That was barely enough time for our scratches to start to heal, and we've got lots of scratches!"
Compliant murmures came from the other students.
Dawson rolled her eyes,
"You're all such drama queens! Look, Dmitri doesn't complain."
She pointed at his direction.
He raised his head from the book he was reading, and stared the conductor dead in the eyes.
"I haven't slept since last night and this," he waved with his mug, " Is my fifth cup of coffee this hour."
The unit laughed while Dawson looked slightly terrified.
"Why didn't we come up with that?" Roshni, Marina's best friend, wondered.
"Yeah," Said Marina, while grabbing her bag, "it's really a good idea."
Discussing the benefits of skip sleep to avoid tiredness in the morning, the youths one after one jumped out on Proudfoot's station. Ruby, a musculus girl with dreadlocks, tripped over a stone, but Daveed Ashley managed to catch her.
"Hey, I like your creative solutions," their conductor gave everybody a friendly puch on their shoulder, "but...just remember that caffeine is poisonous in too large quantities.""Sure." Said Daveed with a big yawn, "Bye Ms. Dawson."
She smiled at the youths as she turned off to level sub-one.
"Bye guys, take care."
Marina mumbled a "See yah", and stepped into the elevator.
The fifth floor was, not surprisingly as it was practically night, almost completely silent with the exception of a couple of muffled roars from a closed room. The five kids went as slow as they could through the hallway as no one particularly languished about their class: Tolerance of pain and inconveniences ( under controlled conditions), since, as the headline told, it always contained a lot of pain and inconveniences.
"Hey Maz," Roshni said gloomily, "If Callaghan makes me do the puke-thing again do you promise to set something on fire since Troy isn't here.
"Ask Dmitri instead," Marina replied, "I think that's more his area."
"Yeah," Roshni nodded and turned around, "could you do that?"
The pale boy shaked his head.
"No," he said, "but I could fill the room with smoke if you want."
"Write me up for it, too," Daveed seemed sick just at the thought of the small pills that gave nausea, "last time I throwed up five hairballs."
"Ew." Ruby looked disgusted, "And I would also like to join the group."
Dmitri smiled big.
"You know I could shape it the way I want..."
"No!" His friends shouted in unison.
"Okay, okay!" He raised his hands in defense, "But just imagine the possibilities..."
Feeling a bit safer, Marina walked into the classroom that already had a slight smell of fire(apparently another unit had had the same idea as they), knowing that the next two hours would be very long.
