She fidgeted in her dress, messing with the seems of the pink velvet dress. She looked around, still fidgeting. Soon enough, she stood up and quickly walked outside. Fresh air helped, but the tightness of her corset was taking its toll. As she was being devoured by her dangerous thoughts, her mother came from behind her. She was pulled out of the thoughts by her mother's hand, placed gently on her back. She quickly looked up, startled.
"Valerie. Are you okay? You haven't been your normal self lately." Her mother asked, not sounding that concerned. She nodded, and looked back over the balcony. "Okay, I have news you may or may not like." She begun, Valerie wasn't looking forward to this. Her mother lead her back in, towards a young man, around her age. His hair that of a sunflower's petals, eyes on emerald, and fair untouched skin. He stood alone, when he spotted her mother. "Valerie, this is Edward Midford." Her mother said, to her daughter. Valerie didn't blink for a moment, before snapped back. Edward giggled, his voice was bewitching. She blushed slightly, but enough for him to see. "I'll leave you two to chat." Her mother said, teasingly. Valerie blinked in shock. Edward clasped her hand, gently, and softly placed his lips on her hand. Her blushing became more noticeable to those around.
"Would you like to avoid embarrassment and go out on the balconies?" Her asked, his voice making her unable to hear a word but nodded anyway. They walked out to one, and she cooled down immediately. "Your mother said your name is Valerie?" He asked to start up a conversation. She nodded.
"And you're Edward?" Continuing the conversation. He nodded. From inside, they could hear a little girl, her squealing could pop an ear drum.
"That's... My sister, I'm sorry." He giggled, rubbing the back of his neck. She giggled along, convincing him it's okay.
As they giggled and chatted, two women chimed in. First a feminine, stirn voice.
"Seems like you two are having fun." She giggled, Valerie's mother's giggling chimed in. Edward blushed.
"Mother!" He gasped. She smiled, but Valerie cocked her head.
"Calm down, boy, no need to get so worked up about it. Every time you're near a women." Edward's mother rolled her eyes at his incompetence. Valerie stood there, confused by who this women was. Though Edward looked to be the same age as her, she looked rather young to be his mother. Her grey hair also confused her, someone can have naturally grey hair at a young age? Edward's mother looked towards her, looking her up and down. "And you're Valerie?" She said, turning to face her.
"Y-yes, ma'am." She forced out.
"I'm Francis Midford. Edward's mother." She smiled, her eyes closing in the process. Francis turned to Edward, "We're leaving soon. It's getting late and Lizzie's getting tired." She said, before walking away with Valerie's mother. Edward sighed, his breath visible in the cold air.
"What's wrong?" Valerie asked. Edward shook his head.
"Nothing, just I...'d have to leave you." He began aloud, but muttered the last part under his breath. Before Valerie could say anything, Edward grabbed her hand and lead her to her garden. She followed obediently. Edward plucked a beautiful rose and tucked it behind her ear, protected by her Aurban hair. She giggled, but he placed his hand on her pale cheek and whispered, "My flower girl." She blushed, slowly it became her entire face. He laughed. Just then a young girl appeared, her hair and eyes the exact same as his.
"We're leaving now, Edward." She cutely yawned. They both giggled at her. Edward soon walked in with them both, said his goodbyes to her and left with his family. As soon as he left the manor, she felt apart of her missing already. She told her mother she was going to retire to her room. She layed in her bed, in her nightgown, thinking about Edward. Soon enough, she fell asleep.
