The next day was a weekend. That meant it was time for Courtney and her sisters to slave away cleaning the house and doing an absolutely appalling amount of chores, it felt like. Courtney was sweeping the kitchen floors while her older sister, Blaire was cleaning the counters.

"- Then he told me that I was being annoying. Like? I can BE annoyin' if you want, boy." Blaire complained as she wiped the counters vigorously, further solidifying the fact that she was pissed off.

"Oh, Arceus, he didn't..."

"He DID though! Like, the fucking audacity!"

"Don't say that too loud," Courtney interjects, pointing to the stairs near the kitchen. "They're in the hallway upstairs."

"Oh." Blaire continued to wipe the counters, a bit quieter. "But like... I literally was barely talkin' to him. He was the one who got me in trouble with the projector thing 'n stuff." She talked and talked for what felt like forever as they did their chores until the kitchen shined so much you would most likely need sunglasses to look at it. Blaire put away the cleaning supplies and looked down at the floor.

"Ya missed a spot."

"Be quiet," Courtney remarked, sweeping faster. "It's not my fault I'm short."

Blaire snickered. "Need me to do it for ya, or something?"

"No."

"Kay," Blaire responded, sitting on a chair near her and watching her sweep. She finished up, this time not missing a spot and then put it away. She stood up from the chair, looking down at Courtney.

"Ya wanna sit on the swing where we think of stuff?"

"..Sure. I don't have anything better to do." Courtney sighs, following close behind Blaire to a little porch swing they had in their yard, since they didn't actually have a big enough porch. They sat down and swung on it for a bit, talking about life and reminiscing of fun times they had when they were little.

"You remember that time I shoved you off this thing?"

"..Yeah, I cried a lot." Courtney snickered in response.

"But it was funny!" Blaire nudges Courtney, giggling and laying back on the swing. She stared up into the sky for a while, shutting her eyes.

"You okay?"

"Sh." Blaire held up a hand, commanding her to be quiet. "It's nice to just.. I dunno, take in the air."

"That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard."

They were interrupted by their father coming outside, yelling about something they couldn't really understand. Both Blaire and Courtney collectively sigh, knowing exactly where he's going. Courtney stayed quiet, staring at him making his way to his car.

"You gonna buy more booze, Daddy?" Blaire called out in a snarky tone, her eyebrows furrowing.

Their dad stopped dead in his tracks and turned on his heels, making Courtney's heart sink.

"Don't you EVER talk to me like that again, young lady."

"So yes?" Blaire's gaze only sharpened, but it was a mistake because it also got her a slap square in the face. She and Courtney both yelped, Blaire giving him a piercing glare as she held her face.

Courtney averted her gaze, staring at the ground unblinkingly. Neither of them spoke. Their dad stared at them both with a balled fist for a few moments before storming off to his car.
