Ayano's hand fit easily into Osano's as they made their way back home from school on a Friday afternoon. It was nearing October and the weather was starting to get chilly; Osano had given her his jacket before they left.
"Wanna come to my house, Osano?" she asked as they went down the hill. "I'll make us popcorn and we can watch a movie or something."
He nodded, tilting his head to smile at her. "Sure, that sounds fun."
After a while, they had reached Ayano's house. Ayano unlocked the door and let them inside. She took off Osano's coat and hung it up on the coat hanger, then took off her shoes, Osano following.
"Can you turn the TV on?" Ayano asked as she made her way upstairs. "I'm gonna change my clothes. Are you gonna change too?"
"I'll change later," Osano called out, flopping himself on the couch. He grabbed the remote from the table and switched to Netflix after turning it on.
Once Ayano had changed into something more comfortable, she went to the kitchen and began to microwave a bag of popcorn. Osano was scrolling through the list of everything that Netflix had to offer since he had last seen it (which was only yesterday), and sighed as he didn't find anything interesting. He tossed the remote aside. He would just let Ayano pick whatever movie they were watching.
Ayano walked in with a bowl of the popcorn and sat herself down on the couch next to Osano's head."Couldn't pick a good movie?" she asked.
"Nah," he replied. He pushed himself forward so his head was resting on her lap.
"Alright. Well, uh... let's watch... a romcom? Those we can make fun of."
He let out a hum as a yes. Ayano picked a random movie from the romcom section and settled herself in, running her fingers through his hair on instinct.
When they had finished the movie and the popcorn, they switched to a TV show, mostly only using it for background noise as they talked.
As they talked, Osano had received a text message from his mom. He opened his phone.
mama: Hi dear. I don't think we'll be able to arrive today, possibly sometime tomorrow in the afternoon, there was a last minute meeting with my boss. Is that okay?
Osano typed out a quick text.
it's okay mama, i can take care of myself. be safe
"Who texted you?" Ayano asked as he tossed his phone behind him.
"My mom. She says her and dad won't be home until tomorrow."
"Ooh. Hey, come sleep here instead," Ayano suggested happily. They often slept over at each other's place; so much so, in fact, that there was a separate drawer in both of their dressers just for the other to place their stuff.
He smiled. "Duh. Where else would I be?" He got up from the couch. "I'm gonna get my clothes from your room, I gotta take a shower."
"Yeah, you stink," Ayano joked. She got hit in the head by a pillow with him before he rushed up the stairs, giggling.
"Asshole!" she laughed, following him up her stairs.
Once Osano had taken a shower and got into his pajamas, he lied down on the futon that Ayano had brought out for him many times before. Ayano, her hair down and a towel in one hand, walked silently outside to the bathroom across the hall to take a shower after him.
He picked his phone up, scrolling mindlessly, not taking in any post or ad whatsoever. His mind was too occupied, again, by Ayano. Earlier, he had pushed those thoughts away, wanting to not let his feelings interfere in their friendship. But now that he was alone, his mind couldn't stop wandering.
