Chapter I : "Roses to the Ashes"
"Endings, I often don't describe them as if they were related to sadness, sometimes something has to end in order for something better to happen" Said Alessandra leaving the little podium at the church and taking a seat right next to uncle Lestrade. Ford took my hand and I could only feel the coldness in his touch, since friday nothing has come to be near as what it used to be.
"Now Ms. Ratchterson will say some words in honor of her father" said the priest looking directly into my eyes as if he could see right through me and feel my pain. I stood up and walk past Ford and Uncle Lestrade and as soon as my hand touched the little podium, a little electric shock ran through my spine. It was time for me to say goodbye to him, goodbye to the man that protected me from everything; It was time to say goodbye to my superhero.
"I remember that one night when I was around 7 years old I had a nightmare, mom had just vanished from my life and dad was really concerned. I remember that that night, I went running into his room and scared him and after I told him about my awful nightmare he just stared and me. He looked right into my eyes and told me: "You know sweetie? Sometimes bad stuff happens to good people because greater things are going to come next, so just think of it this way, the nightmare was tonight, but tomorrow it's going to be a beautiful dream." I keep trying to repeat that to myself today, that this is only happening to me because maybe something greater may come next, but the truth is that daddy" I said looking to the casket "I just can't handle not having you and not seeing you every morning cooking breakfast or throwing a silly joke or watching a movie with me on a rainy Saturday night. The truth is daddy, that I love you and I have no clue how I'm going to live without you around" I finally said collapsing in tears and just then I felt a hand holding my shoulder, the priest.
"I think you're really brave and that you should get some rest sweetheart."

"I really can't believe these people" said Ford looking to the massive crowd of important Seattle's elite. He hated this wake as much as I did. My father, an important businessman and genius had just died, but it seemed like no one really cared. Everyone was acting normal, not a single tear was being shed.
"Some people deal with pain differently" I said looking at the only sad faces in the entire crowd. Uncle Lestrade was holding a glass of Scotch while talking to Alessandra, the only sad faces among the entire crowd.
"Listen, I know it's not the time but I really think we should set things straight" the blue eyed boy said looking into my green orbs. He was a really attractive man, and a complete asshole when he wanted to, but after all, he was the best cousin in the world.
"Just say it, I've already heard them. I'm going to New York with one of my dad's friends that he trusted the most so that means that we're probably not going to see each other in a while." I said looking through his eyes, I could see everything. Every piece of sadness and every piece of the shattered little boy that was left.
"I'm really gonna miss you. You know? I've grow a liking for you" he said with a tiny smile cracking on his face.
"Oh shut up you asshole" I said smiling
"No, but seriously who is this dude and why did your dad trusted him with you instead of my dad?"
"I don't know, I don't even know his name or what's his connection with my dad. The only thing I know is that he lives in the upper east side, he's a scientist and that I'm going to attend school there and live there. I don't know, it's on my father's will so I don't really have a choice"
"What the fuck was James thinking? I mean his daughter , the love of his life, given to a complete stranger. Who knows what that guy could do to you! Up to our knowledge, he could be a murderer!"
