Chapter one
I sigh as I scan the list of students who passed this semester. As expected Mr. Alvarez ace the sem. I wonder if this boy had a girlfriend, I always see him with books or his in front of his laptop. Such a nerd...
He doesn't wore thick glasses or has the aura of always scared or shy like the typical nerd students. In fact he's the opposite... He's tall and manly, even me who doesn't get intimidated by anyone is intimidated by his presence.
“Look, kate. Theo topped this sem again,” Tili ng isa sa mga may gusto kay Mr. Alvarez. I rolled my eyes, hindi pa ba sila nasanay?
Wala akong reaksyon ng hindi makita ang pangalan sa listahan ng mga pasado. I knew this would happen... To think of it I somehow like what just happened.
I don't know why my parents keep telling me to pursue being a veterinarian. I already made it clear to them that I want to build my own business. Just because we're a family of doctors doesn't mean I'll need to follow their path. Both of my parents are surgeon, my two ate's are in pedia as well as my brother... They always see me as a rebel daughter. I don't really care though, the picture of me that you have in mind doesn't concern me.
Naglalakad ako papuntang parking lot habang iniisip kung anong gagawin ko sa oras na bisitahin na ako ni Mama sa condo. I'm sure alam na nila na bagsak ako.
“Ms. Romano,” Napatalon ako nang may biglang nagsalita sa gilid ko, “Putang ina,” napahawak ako sa dibdib at tumingin ng masama sa katabi ngunit nawala ito nang ma-realize na hindi kami close.
“Sorry for the curse, May I know what you need?” I asked Mr. Alvarez with a monotone voice.
“You failed.” He said, it's a statement! Pinamukha pa nga. Talaga naman, oh!
“So what?”
Hindi siya sumagot at nanatiling nakatingin sa'kin. My brows arched. Napailing ito at agad na umalis.
“Tsk,” sinayang niya lang ilang segundo ng buhay ko dahil sa walang kwentang pagtitig.
I put my hands inside my pocket and continue walking.
Dumaan muna ako sa Jollibee para bumili ng family pan spaghetti and bucket fried chicken before heay to my condo. It's the end of the month, I need to reward myself a good food. I'll eat this by myself.
As soon as I walked in my baby Parma come to me— running. “Did you miss momma?” tumawa ako nang dilaan niya ako sa pisngi.
I changed into some comfy clothes and tie my hair in a messy bun. As soon as I turned eighteen I work my ass off to own a condo though this still not fully paid but I'm working on it.
My dream before is to get out of that house. I envy others who call their house as home because I never experience home. A sad smile crept in my face.
Napatingin ako kay Parma nang makita itong parang tangang nagpapa ikot-ikot. Napangiti ako dahil ang cute nito. Actually... I'm happy now
... I'm all alone with just my pet parma, I don't have to do dishes if I'm not in the mood, I can do whatever heck that I want becauae no one will judge me, I can design my own room, watch anime all day, and last is I can walk naked.
I eat while watching anime until dawn. Some call it boring but I will never get bored doing things like this over and over again.
Nagising ako ng marinig na may kumakatok sa pinto. I checked my phone and it's already 2 in the afternoon. I pushed myself to stand and open the door. Agad na sumalubong sa'kin ang masamang tingin ni Mama.
I drew a deep breathe. Ito na naman po tayo....
“Stop being a failure for once, Thalia.” agad na sermon ni Mama.
“Good afternoon, Ma” I replied. Dumiretso si Mama sa sala at binuksan ang kurtina. Napapikit ako dahil sa sinag ng araw. Kinusot ko ang mata at umupo sa couch. Hindi ko inakala na malalaman agad ni Mama na bumagsak nga ako. Inaasahan ko naman na, pero hindi nga lang agad-agad.
“Hindi pa alam ng papa mo na bagsak ka dahil nasa 8 hrs surgery ito ngayon.” patuloy ni Mama habang pinupulot yung mga cans ng softdrink ko kagabi.
“Magagalit na naman sa'yo 'yon sigurado.” rinig ko ang pag buntong hininga ni Mama sa kusina. Tumayo ako at naglakad papuntang kusina naabutan ko si Mama na naghuhugas ng kung ano.
“Ma... I already made it clear to you that I don't want to be a vet.” I said, hindi ito sumagot at pinagpatuloy ang paghuhugas. “I want to own a business...”
“And what business?”
“Anything na kikita ako ng pera, something that I enjoy...”
“You know that your father is against except you being in Med” Diniinan ni Mama yung salitang you. I sigh, I already know that.
“I already made my mind, I'll drop VMed and start my own business whether Papa like it or not.” Matigas kong sabi. Humarap sa'kin si Mama na hindi makapaniwala sa sinabi ko.
“Your father won't support you.”
“I don't need his support— I don't need anyone's support.”
Sandaling tumingin sakin si Mama bago nagsalita
“Then... I guess I can't stop you anymore,” She sighed. “Please take care of yourself, I know your father will stop sending you money after he heard your decision.” she said defeated.
I nodded. I knew that very much. “I will, Ma”
