Inside and Out

The handle creaked and the door slowly creaked open. A tall shadow figure with messy hair stood in the door way.

'Hello, it's just me uh I didn't mean to wake you up but-'

It was Lindsey.

I cut her off. 'Don't be sorry! What's wrong?' It took her a while. 'Well, I don't want to sound weird but I hate being alone and uh- yeah...' I smiled. Maybe Conan was right last year. Maybe Lindsey did like me...

I pulled out the sheet next to me, indicating for Lindsey to come and lay next to me and she took the opportunity. She laid next to me and I pulled the covers back up over her.

I rolled over to face the wall, I didn't want to make it awkward. She did the same and we both fell to sleep.

I woke up and it was 5:23am. Mom wasn't awake because the door wasn't open. I jumped out of bed and collected my clothes. I headed to the bathroom to take my morning shower and get changed.

Once I had finished, I headed back into my room and realised the door was open. I had closed it, so that meant Mom was awake.

I headed downstairs to find Mom sat on the couch, glaring at me. 'You never told me your little friend was your girlfriend...' her voice trailed off.

'Oh God!' I laughed, 'Mom no, Lindsey just felt lonely last night so she stayed in my room. It's no big deal.' This made Mom angry. 'No big deal? A girl comes here and you just let her sleep in your bed? She has her own bed, so if she is going to be like that she can leave!'

Mom was clearly in a bad mood today.

Lindsey walked into the room in her blue star-patterned pyjamas and smiled. 'I'ts 6am, why are you all yelling?'

Mom ignored her and carried on watching television and I brought her back up stairs and told her what she had said.

'Oh...' she sounded sad. 'I didn't want to upset anyone, I just felt lonely and I-' her eyes started to fill with tears again, just like last night.

She gave me a sad smile and stood up. 'It's alright, I'll just go. It was nice seeing you again Amy.' Lindsey walked into dad's old room to grab her bag.

Why was Mom always like this? Why did she always have to be so stubborn? Parents aren't always right these days, they think they are though.

Lindsey yelled bye through the door way and kept on walking, heading for the stairs. 'No!' I yelled back. 'Please don't go, I love you!'

What had I just said? Why did I do that? Why was I asking so many questions today?

Lindsey turned around, gave me another sad smile and walked towards me. She kissed me softly on the  cheek and left.

Parents Suck.
