The Fight

The next few days passed slowly, every time Blue left to hunt I was left alone in the dim light of the cave. Over and over I had cursed myself for my legs not wanting to work, and talking to my mind, whom I had now named Ivor because if I kept calling him my mind, then I was going to lose my mind. He was not a great conversationalist, conversations never lasted longer than five minutes. Every time the blue Raptor came back with her kills, my bored expression beamed up a bit. We didn't talk much, in fact she sometimes forgot that I was here.

I did have to compliment myself for that, it showed that even as a bloodied up mess, I was still stealthy.

One day, Blue didn't go out hunting, she stayed here with me. I looked over at our food pile, we did have quite a lot of food which didn't surprise me, she had been going out each day.

I looked down to my chest. The wound still hadn't healed over, not even a little. I heard footsteps near the entrance of the cave. I knew it was Blue, but I looked up to see who it was anyway. Seeing the blue Raptor didn't surprise me anymore, a couple of days ago, seeing her face would have sent me straight into battle ready mode. That didn't mean to say that it didn't send a little shiver of fear down my spine

I saw her drag in a bunch of animal coats, and my mind instantly showed me images of what the animals looked like without their furry hides. I grumbled to myself to get Ivor to stop showing me these images.

I kept watching Blue as she brought more and more furs in. "What are you doing?" I asked, half heartedly. She sighed. "It's Winter," she said bluntly. Winter? What was that? Now, I saw myself as quite an intelligent animal. I was able to scavenge food in desperate situations, and I was able to hunt pretty efficiently. But this thing called Winter? I'd never heard of.

I tilted my head in confusion, and stared blankly at her. It took her a second to catch on to what my expression was implying. When she finally understood, she half squinted her eyes at me. "Y-you don't know what Winter is?" I shook my head slightly. She sighed, rolling her eyes she got up and began to cross the ground between us.

My eyes widened and my normal breathing turned into heavy breathing. I still didn't fully trust her after all. "That's close enough!" I growled. She stopped suddenly, but she wasn't afraid, why wasn't she afraid?

I narrowed my eyes and kept growling. "You should be afraid!" I barked. "Why aren't you afraid?" The blue Raptor chuckled to herself, as if she were mocking me. I flared my nostrils loudly and she stopped. "What's so funny?" I growled. After a few seconds of staring contest, she finally spoke up.

"It's funny that you think that I'm afraid of you," she said, still with a hint of laughter. I growled at her again, I was not known to have patience, and right now, she was killing what patience I had.

"Ripper, I've fought you and won. So I'm not afraid of you." That was the last straw, she should've taken my growling as a warning. I pushed off the ground, launching myself at her, my legs and brain screamed at me to stop.

She was small, which meant she was fast. She dodged out the way of my tackle, and I landed on the cold hard cave floor.

My body was still broken, it had only been a couple of days after all. I tripped on a small out of place stone, which sent me flying into the cave wall.

I roared in anger and pain, the jagged stones digging into my skin. The stones didn't pierce my hardened scales, but it still hurt.

I quickly jumped back up, into attack position, crouching low and baring my teeth.

I looked over to where Blue was, or at least where I thought she was. Like I said: she was fast.

Suddenly, I felt something slam into my side. You idiot! Ivor roared. Why are you fighting her? in all honesty I didn't know why. Now that I think about it, this fight was stupid. But it was happening now, and backing down now would be terrible.
