...And when I felt like I was an old cardigan
under someone's band
You put me on
And said I was your favourite...The little pub was packed of people from the neighbourhood, Carrie was talking with Inez and some other girls Rebekah never saw before. She was wearing a T-shirt with Ryan's cardigan on, she didn't got the chance to give it back to him after the afternoon by the lake, she started to look around for him or Pastor Sam even though the latter was more difficult to find in a pub full of alcohol. "Oh Rebekah, honey, hi is so good to see you here tonight. We haven't see you much around lately, are you doing ok? We hope you feel at home in this community as we all do" Carrie said giving her a big smile while her blonde her were changing color again and again because of the shadow lights around the place. "Yes, I'm doing fine thank you. Hello Inez" she said politely "Hi Rebekah right? Really nice cardigan, where did you buy it?" Inez asked looking Rebekah from head to toe and noticing her kitten high heels "I... in New York..." Rebekah answered embarrassed trying to be a good liar "Rebekah!" Sam called her from behind the counter "Father Sam?! Why is him here?" She asked confused more to herself tha the others "He controls people don't get it too far with the alcohol and everything" a girl with a pale green sweater answered near Inez "Oh I see, I'll better go and say hi by the way... it was good to see you girls" Rebekah smiled leaving the chit chatting about her in secret.
"I really like your cardigan, you don't steal only dogs but even wardrobe pieces...wow" he said passing Rebekah a beer "He gave it to me... long story" she said hoping for the conversation to be over "Be careful Rebekah, my door is always open for you, you will need friends soon" he said while looking at the door and seeing Ryan coming in "What do you mean? I have friends... in New York and anyway I have Ryan..." "Funny, cause both the three of us know the truth two more than others know the real one. I'm sorry you can't see it, but he is good at hiding anyway so have a good night, I will be around" he said leaving her alone and confused at the counter while Ryan was getting closer.
"Hey, what's up?" He said looking into her eyes "What about you, me and a bottle of vodka... " she said taking the bottle and paying "I'm in let's go" he said taking her by the hand making their way out while everyone was watching.
The street looked like a concrete desert only lighted by street lights, the cars of the different addresses were bordering the sidewalks along the way as boats floating and docked to the harbour. In the distance a guy with his unbuttoned shirt and drunk was dancing in his Levi's and singing 'One of this days' by Neil Young "C'mon sing the back chorus with MEEEEEE!" He said almost historically laughing "Ryan SHUT UUUUUP!" Rebekah shouted in the distance a little bit too far behind him while some houses lights were starting to appear along the way by people woke by the chaos. Rebekah run to him and toking him by the harm and pulling him down to the ground behind a car while what looked like a big man silhouette was coming out of his home "GO OUT OF THE WAY PEOPLE?! WE ARE TRYING TO SLEEP IN HERE OK?!" and by the smashing his door. Ryan started to laugh along with Rebekah and placing index finger to his mouth hoping it would work for some silence as it worked when he was a child. "What if we play hide and seek around this cars and trees?" He whispered "Are you crazy? Someone will call the police or at worst shoot us?" She answered trying not to keep laughing as her head was spinning for too much alcohol. "The worst it will come is Smo a disappointed one, but he won't shoot us c'mon chicken little, show me what you got. YOU COUNT IN MISSISSIPPI MEASURE" he said starting to run and hide somewhere; leaving Rebekah sat on the concrete starting to remember how numbers worked and if one was still before two.
After some Mississippi's, silence and some more Colorado she came out from behind the car looking at the big desolation in front of her and feeling incredibly lonely while the sadness provoked from the alcohol was starting to surface inside her. Suddenly she felt scared and without even caring about where Ryan could have been she started running maybe hoping he would be somewhere near or she would end up coming back home.
In the complete dark now with just a dim light on the other side of the sidewalk she was almost by Ryan's house side of the street and in the distance two undistinguished figures were walking fast towards her. Two hands forcefully grabbed her wrist pulling her down as she fell to the ground, a really worried Ryan with bigger black eyes was staring at her encouraging her not to make a sound "...and what about him, I wonder if Betty knows what he's out and about during at the moment. Poor girl someone should tell her...and I'm sure that will be you Inez" Claire said as both of the women starting laughing and walking along the opposite street as them. Ryan's muscles were relaxing as long as they were growing distant and distant until he exhaled. "Are you ok man?" Rebekah asked placing herself near him still noticing he was still gripped at her wrist. "Yes, sorry, I guess that's enough wild life for tonight..." he said loosening up his grip. "You're right, I better go back home" she said while starting to take off his cardigan "Wait, you should keep it. That cardigan looks like my new favourite one on you. Because you are my favourite one" he said while placing a light kiss on her lips and then her neck. "Wasn't it enough wild life for tonight?" She whispered "Maybe I reconsidered my position" he said pulling her closer and kissing her deeply while her fingers intertwined through his long soft hair.
