We are behind the big red curtains. Everybody else was getting ready for the show.
"Adam!" The stage director called for him.
"Well, that's my cue to leave." I turned around but he gently grabbed my wrist.
I looked at him surprised then looked at his hand holding onto my wrist; it felt nice his hand was so soft and warm.
So that's what he feels like, I thought.I love it. He slowly let go. Suddenly I missed the heat and softness.
"Will you be watching?"
"If you would like."
He smiled, "Yeah I'd like that."
I nodded.
"I'll be looking for you."
I smiled and started walking away, "Have fun and good luck."
I walked over to Violet, she was waiting for me. She seemed kinda shocked.
"What?"
"I have never seen you look at someone like that. Never ever."
I was confused, "What do you mean?"
"Rosie, you looked at him like there's hope for something, love? Peace? "
I shook my head, "You're nuts."
We walked off the stage and head in the crowd to watch Adam perform. The curtains went up. He was standing there looking around while he spoke, what is he looking for? More like who is he looking for?
"Hello, hello everyone! Tonight I'm singing 3 songs tonight. I'm starting with Better Than I Know Myself."
He started singing, "Cold as ice and more bitter than December, winter night. That's how I treated you and I know that I sometimes tend to lose my temper and I cross the line. Yeah, that's the truth." He found me. His eyes staring into mine. "I know it gets hard sometimes but I could never leave your side no matter what I say........"
He finishes the rest of the song. The crowd went wild. I looked over at Mike, he was excited.
"Everybody having a good time?"
"Yeah!!!"
"Adam I love you!"
"Adam! Adam! Adam!"
Screamed/chanted the crowd.
"Great, great now this next song is Soaked."
His band started playing.
"Soaked to the bone. Sink like a stone. Walk home alone. It's not the first time it's not the worse crime. Your soul will be okay. And you had an enough searching for love...."
The song ended. The crowd went even wilder.
He smiled, "My next song." He looked at me. "Fever."
The band started playing.
Violet nudged me with her elbow, "Your alls song."
I smiled and looked back at him. He was still looking at me.
"My baby walks so slow Sexual tic-tac-toe, Yeah, I know we both know It isn't time, no But could you be m-mine We'll never get too far Just you, me, and the bar Silly ménage à trois, sometimes Would you be m-mine Would you be m-mine? Would you be m-mine?......"
Song ended and everybody cheered. I found myself cheering along with them. He was good there isn't any doubt about that.
Violet nudged me, "C'mon we probably gotta serve them."
She started leaving and I followed her. We went backstage after showing our ID.
Adam was drinking water. He saw me and walked over.
He smiled, "Did you enjoy it?"
"Yes, I did."
"Good, good."
He took another drink.
My cell started ringing, I answered it.
"Hello?"
"Come home now."
It was my father's voice.
"I'm at work."
"Rosalie. Now. Or I'll make it even more horrible tonight."
I swallowed hard as I pulled my phone back to see what time it was; it read 11 and I get off at 11 30.
"Fine, I'm coming."
"Good."
I hung up the phone and looked at Adam.
"I'm sorry but I have to go."
He nodded, "Will I ever see you again?"
I shrugged, "You know where I work at."
He smiled, "Bye Rosie."
I smiled back, "Bye."
I hurried over to Mike.
"I have to go home now. My father needs me."
He nodded smiling, "Go ahead."
