"Can I join the fun?"

Sven looked up to see Burt, amused in the doorway.

"Burt! Of course you can join!" he squeaked. "You look cheerful, care to tell me the good news?"

"Somebody-Hat Girl, you call her?-suggested a role for me in the clan," Burt stated, walking forward.

"Really? What was it?" Sven asked.

"Head of communications."

"Wow! That's amazing!"

"All I need is the approval from you, Sven, and I'll be good to go."

"Do you want to be head of communications?"

Burt nodded silently.

"I'm not gonna turn that down! I bet you'd be amazing at that!" Sven laughed. "Burt Curtis, I promote you to head of communications!"

"I won't let you down, Sven." Burt gave him that signature smile.

The one that made Sven's heart skip a beat.

Burt walked around the desk.

"Oh, you can have my chair." Sven stood up and smiled warmly.

"Then where are you gonna sit?"

"I can sit on the floor, I guess."

"No, you can sit on my lap again. Just don't kiss me. Again." Burt chuckled.

Sven blushed, embarrassed but also a bit sad that Burt didn't want him to kiss his cheek again.

Burt sat on his chair and dragged Sven down with him.

He pulled a computer closer to him and began writing, keys clicking faster than Sven could ever type.

You seem perfect for the job...

He rested his head on Burt's shoulder, attention completely absorbed in the screen and next-level work presented on it.

Yet Burt filled it out like it was nothing and went to the next page.

Something caught his eye.

Carol.

He looked over to them and narrowed his eyes.

They had a smirk on their face and expectant, dark brown eyes.

'Tell him now,' they mouthed.

'I can't!' Sven mouthed back angrily.

This is not a moment to confess!

'It's the perfect moment to confess!' Carol mouthed, contradicting what his mind told him.

'No it's not!'

'I'll tell him if you don't.'

'One moment.'

"Burt, can you leave for one second? I need to talk to Carol privately," Sven said politely.

"Of course." Burt and Sven shuffled around for a second until Burt had left.

Sven breathed in heavily, then whirled around to Carol.

"What on earth were you thinking?!" he cried.

"Look, you have a lot of problems on your shoulders right now. And telling Burt how you feel would get rid of a big one!" Carol pointed out.

"I can do that myself! Why do you feel entitled to tell him yourself?!" Sven demanded.

"Because a Right Hand Person's whole purpose is to help the leader with their problems! I'm trying to help!" Carol hissed.

"Not very well!" Sven contradicted.

"You don't know that. You won't ever give me a chance," Carol muttered.
