His foolishness got the better of him, Kairo chased after what was practically a ghost. The girl in white. Where did that lead him? To his demise.
The minotaur-like creature roared, waving its arm into the sky with its gigantic axe. Gravity accompanied the strength of the axe, as it hurled towards Kairo barely missing him. But the force was so strong, that the wind pressure sent Kairo sliding across the floor. The monster was aware that he was dominating this encounter, it strutted towards Kairo.
Petrified and laying on the ground, he stared at the creature towering over him, he raised his arms in reflex and shut his eyes.
"Is this really it for me? I'm going to die. Just like her..." Kairo stuttered as the image of a young girl flashed through his mind
In that moment, time froze around him. Amongst the darkness behind his eyelids, he noticed a tiny pigment of light. Squinting his eyes as he opened them, a glowing white diamond was floating right in front of him. A soothing familiar female voice could be heard telling him to grab it.
heeding those words, he stretched his arm out to grab it as time resumed with the creature's attack still incoming. Encasing it whole in the palm of his hand, the diamond's glow illuminated the battlefield. With the minotaur staring Kairo down throughout this process, leaving it blinded by the light and forcing it to drop its axe. Groaning from the stinging sensation in its eyes, it covered them with one hand while the other was swinging about attempting to hit Kairo.
Luckily for Kairo, he was left unaffected as he looked away by reflex. Turn his head back, he felt that it was no longer a shining piece of rock in his hand. Getting a good look at it, anyone could tell. It was a weapon. A Japanese sword, a katana in fact. The sword's metallic blade was coated white and had a dimming glow.
Taking a stance, Kairo announced brimming with confidence "This is a miracle that I never heard before!"
Fully aware that he had zero knowledge of how to fight using a sword, he charged forward in hopes to land a lucky hit. As the minotaur continued to flay his arm, it struck Kairo in his steps. Holding the blade with two hands by the hilt, the strike knocked the back of the blade onto Kairo's collarbone as he was launched into a nearby building.
A single hit from the unarmed monster left Kairo barely conscious as blood trickled down his face. He also could no longer feel his right arm. As the sword fell out of grasp, he mustered whatever strength he had left in his body and attempted to pick it up with his left hand. Instantaneously, his vision went black. But he was awake. However, he could not see anything around him. It was almost like just before he arrived in this world, yet something was different. The world's voice was not speaking to him. Instead, someone appeared in front of him. It was the girl in white.
"You're that girl from before? I feel like I know you, but I can't remember your name."
"You can call me Yumeko. We can save the questions for another day. Right now, I'll be borrowing your body."
"What are you talking about? Where are we?"
"We're in your consciousness, silly."
As those words were processed, Kairo's physical body began to move. Like a ripple, his black hair was dyed silvery-white and the pupils of his eyes followed suit. His body at this moment, was not his own. He was something stronger. He dashed forward, his body moved as though he was uninjured. As the minotaur was still blinded, Kairo took the opportunity to run up towards its fallen axe but not before grabbing a small rock from the ground. Kairo tossed the rock behind the monster, causing it to turned around. Using the monster's axe like a ramp as it fell perfectly diagonal from the edge to its grip, he ran up the shaft and leapt upwards. Upon hearing the sound of Kairo's footsteps getting closer, the minotaur turned back. Allowing Kairo to strike a clean blow as the katana's blade fazed through its neck, severing it.
With the minotaur dead, Kairo's feature started to return to normal as did his senses. Yumeko appeared beside him as a separate entity as he continued to stare at his current accomplishment.
"How did I do that?"
"Technically, you didn't. I did." Yumeko snarkily retorted
"Right... but how?" Kairo asked as he dropped the sword
As Kairo reached his hand out to touch her, Yumeko slowly faded into nothingness.
"Wait! Where'd she go?"
