The classes passed by very slowly. Hoseok felt like the lessons were hours longer than they used to be, although they weren’t. all he thought about was meeting with Sunhee that even the professors called him out several times for spacing out.

But now the time had come. Whether he liked it or not. He was seated behind one of the tables at the university’s café and he couldn’t stop fidgeting. He was too nervous. He felt like he will throw up in any moment. He wanted to run away from this situation. Far far away. But he knew he couldn’t. he shouldn’t. and that he should face it sooner or later.

Hoseok had ordered a cup of coffee, hoping the caffeine would calm his nerves down a little bit. But the coffee stayed untouched after only one small sip. He hated being so…coward. He already knew what was going to happen. Anyone could tell. But his mind just wasn’t ready to hear the actual thing yet. Maybe because they really didn’t have any reason to be breaking up?

He heard the jingle of the bells coming from the café doors, and as he lifted his head up, he was greeted with the familiar figure of her girlfriend.

You can’t run away now.

He waved at her from his table with a nervous smile, which Sunhee returned with a small smile of her own. She walked to the table and after a quick greeting she sat down in front of him.

“would you like to order anything?” Hoseok asked lowly, and Sunhee shook his head.

“I’m not really thirsty right now.” She explained.

Hoseok nodded and they went silent. After some time, when Hoseok couldn’t stand the silence any longer, he spoke up.

“so…are you going to tell me what’s wrong?” he started with a deep breath. He felt a little more relaxed now that he was actually speaking to her.

The calm before storm? he hoped not.

Sunhee squirmed in her seat a little before clearing her throat. “I…have some news…” she started. Hoseok waited patiently for her to go on.

“remember that dance university I was talking to you about? The one in America?” she asked while looking down at her intertwined fingers. He remembered clearly. Sunhee used to talk about it so enthusiastically. Her eyes always sparkled when she explained him how great that

university was. Studying there was her dream. Hoseok only nodded.

“um…I applied there a while ago…” she said lowly, still looking down.

Hoseok looked up at her with questioning eyes.

Sunhee bit her lip and Hoseok could see a little smile appearing on her lips.

“I got accepted.”

Ah. It all made sense now.

Hoseok gave her a genuine smile. He was happy for her. Going to America and studying there was her biggest dream and he was happy that it finally happened. It was just…too sudden for him.

“congratulations. That’s amazing news.”

Sunhee looked at him and smiled. “thank you, Hoseok.”

There was a question still left though. Why didn’t she tell him sooner?

As if Sunhee read his mind, she spoke up again.

“so…the thing is…my mom was kind of against me going there. That’s why I didn’t tell you before. Because it wasn’t settled yet. But after a lot of discussion, dad finally made her agree.” She cleared her throat before continuing. “and about that trip…we went to America to do the final preparations. And to make sure that the invitation letter I received was actually from the university. Turns out it was. And so…” she gulped and looked at Hoseok. “I’m moving to America, Hoseok.”
