The girl was sitting on the cool grass staring at the clouds, trying to clear her mind and remove all traces of emotions, but she knew very well that that was impossible. Nathan was next to her, looking closely at the honey-eyed girl. Nathan and Nicol were far from being classified as the perfect couple, but that was what made them unique. They were light and dark at maximum intensity.
A frankly indescribable connection.
"What are you thinking about?" The boy asked in an intrigued tone.
Nicol shot him a blank look, hesitating to tell him his thoughts, and it wasn't because he didn't trust the boy. If she had to choose someone to expose her most shameful secrets, she would tell Nate without hesitation.
The girl tucked unruly hair behind her ear that had escaped her.
She did it every time she was nervous. And her friend knew it.
"Nothing important," Nicol replied in a firm whisper, looking away from Nathan's face.
The black-haired man shook his head, making it clear that he was aware that he was lying to him, but he did not insist on knowing what was on that peculiar girl's mind.
"What are your plans for Friday?" Nathan questioned as he gazed into the beautiful eyes of his best friend.
"You know, going to school, the common."she replied shrugging, opening the package of cookies she had in her hands."What about you?"
She liked chatting with him, because she stopped feeling overwhelmed. He was a very good company for her, he was her little light of happiness within the immense harmful darkness of her. However, she was aware that she was not a good influence on him, but still she could not get away from him. Why could she do that if it had always been Nicol and Nate?
"I think after class I'll stop by the ice cream parlor." She said with a beaming smile on her face, lying on her back in the grass. "Do you want to go?"
Then the girl continued eating her chocolate chip cookies.
"You know you can always count on me." The boy said accepting the invitation of his favorite friend.
"You don't know how much I am dying to eat strawberry ice cream." She exclaimed smiling.
The confused expression appeared on the black-haired boy's face. He was silent for a moment and then spoke.
"I thought you preferred the mint ice cream," he said more to himself, thinking that apparently he no longer knew his best friend as well as before.
Nicol preferred strawberry ice cream now, however, before she would have gone out of her way to get a mint flavored ice cream.
Now everything was different in Nicol, she had changed a lot.
"Maybe I still will" he just answered reluctantly. "I have to go, sorry," she said standing up, ready to leave that park.
The girl's heart had once again been tinged with negative emotions, emotions that kill if you don't know how to control them. Why at this very moment she did not want to be who she was, she wanted to be someone else less: Nicol Lewis.
"But, it's still early" Protested the boy who now had a sad look. Usually they stayed longer in the park talking about the nonsense of life."I must go," She said quickly.
The girl's walk home was very short and she spent the entire time listening to music through her headphones. Music made her escape from her unwanted reality, except classical music.
Nicol did not want to listen to classical music again, nor did she want to hear anything related to ballet again.
Sometimes there are people who manage to overcome their fears, others who manage to do it with difficulty, but there are some who like her decided to remain in a deep fall.
