Sometimes it's weird walking around this giant mansion as I student when I know, and my surrounding peers know, that I am much older than what I appear. My mutation, longevity, gives me a much much longer lifespan while it slows down my aging process, but it didn't settle into a slow down aging until I was in puberty.
I've been stuck as a teenager since the late forties. Now it is 1986, and I still look like a sixteen-year-old. At least everything else has changed for me besides that. "Ah, [Y/N], I was wondering when you would come by." Him being one of them.
Charles Xavier. He's the headmaster of this school who teaches a class or two also and one of my oldest friends. He used to have thick brown locks of hair, but after what happened with Apocalypse, it all fell out. And it hasn't grown since. But his hair was never my favorite part about him. His eyes. His blue eyes is what drew me in when I first met him and my other oldest friend Eric Lehnsherr.
"Sorry. I was busy helping Jean with something." I apologized.
"It's fine, [Y/N]. You shouldn't apologize to me." he told me, his eyes never left the paper in front of him.
"But I made you wait." I argued.
"Well those few minutes of me waiting let me grade some more papers than I would have if you showed up on time, but don't worry, love." Why did he have to call me that? Of all things? "So, what game will we play today? Checkers? Chess? Spider Solitaire?"
"I was thinking we could play Mancala. I noticed you had a board with marbles on your shelf. I wanted to give it a try." I told him.
"Well go set it up, love. I'll be with you in a moment. I'm almost done grading this test paper, and I'll be right with you." he told me.
I nodded and took the board off the shelf before setting it up on Charles's desk. The telepath before me stook to his word and was done grading the test paper within moments and he was now waiting for me to begin the game.
"So, you know how to play right?" I asked him as I finished placing three marbles in one of the holes.
"Yes, I remember you telling me or rehearsing it in your mind just now, love. I think I understand well enough, right? It's a game on my strategy and chance right? Why don't you go first, love?" he told me.
He has always called me that. Love. And it always has this effect on me, and I hate it. Luckily he's never been able to see or hear my thoughts on him like I've never had the luxury of seeing or hearing his thoughts on me. For all I know he was being too nice to me because I'm a telelpath while he thought I was annoying.
"Don't mind if I do." I took a trio of marbles into my hand and started my turn.
"Hank told me he saw you sneak out last night." Charles told me. "I just want to know where you went, is all."
"And you probably won't like this, but it's none of your business, Charlie." I told him.
"Are you sure about that?" he asked me as he picked up some marbles of his own turn. "Because I... I just want to make sure you're okay. That you're not going to do anything you'll regret. Because... Because I know how you get this time... of year."
"Charles. Stop. I...I don't." I paused. "I...I don't wanna talk about that right now." I told him.
"Just promise you won't do anything you'll regret later on. And I'll come with you this year." he told me.
"You always go with me, Charlie." I told him.
"I know." Charles finished his turn, so I could go ahead with my turn. "But I also know that you're having some trouble. As a student."
I sent him a look as I picked up some marbles. "I should have known that I couldn't keep anything from you, but what are you referring to."
"Hank says," I really should stop talking to Hank about my problems, but it's easy to when he's busy designing or building new equipment for us, "that you're feeling insecure in your place amongst the students. He wouldn't tell me why, because I'm sure you told him in confidence, something you normally would never do, and you probably don't want anyone to know, but it's okay, And my offer still stands, love. You can become a teacher if you want."
"But I would feel awkward teaching to kids my age." I told him what I told him when he offered for me to be a teacher.
"You just look like them. You're actually more my age than theirs, love. And I think you'll make a much better teacher than a student. Not that you're not a good student. But this way I can talk to you and not feel weird while doing it." I understand where he's coming from, because it's weird talking to him, Hank, and Raven as a student when the three of them are teachers.
"It's just... I want to stay being a student." So I can continue living my two lives I have created for myself. Lives that he knows nothing about. And I hope it stays that way. For a long time to come.
