"Preparations are set, commander. The mission is ready to be deployed."
"Excellent... Are you sure the girl chosen is ready for this?"
"I'm certain, commander. The redhead's even beginning to show an interest in wildlife, so that will make this even more effective."
"And the skill we were planning on increasing?"
"Please. She's been shooting arrows since she learned to walk. She'll do great."
"And what of the other animal?"
"Its natural instincts for survival will make it perfect for this."
"And you're absolutely certain she can handle the amount of power?"
"Positive, commander."
"Alright then. Get the device ready."
"I will."
The commander left the room just as Lauri started up the device. It was still in the beta stage of testing, but it would do nicely. She remembered what she had to do. The redhead was the only one eligible for the experiment. She loaded up the holographic map, finding the location where the redhead lived, and loaded up the device.
The others were skeptical about whether the whole thing would work, if she would be able to handle all the energy at such a young age. The commander brushed off their concerns and handed the project over to Lauri for completion. And she was determined not to let him down.
She aimed the device and pressed the large button on the side of it, causing it to heat up. As the device started to activate, she realized one fatal flaw in the plan.
The device's overheating protection had not been installed yet.
She immediately reached to the button to deactivate it and got shot back by a large burst of energy as the device launched a bright beam of energy at the holographic map. It dissapeared when it hit the surface, but the device was still heating up. She frantically raced towards it but froze when she felt the heat coming from it.
She started to run but was knocked back against the wall as the device started to glow, incinerating the control panel, and leaving behind only a pile of ash. The sirens blared as the red lights started up, flashing rapidly to signal an emergency.
Commander ran into the room and saw Lauri against the wall. When he got close enough to her, he saw that there was no life in her eyes. But the location marked on the map was still glowing. A large tube that had been set up next to the map started glowing. The silhouette of a young girl started forming in it.
We may have lost Lauri... But we completed our mission. That was the only thought he could think as the silhouette gained color and shape, and eventually fell to the floor, unconscious. He walked over to it and smiled.
"Subject T-87 is in place, Paula."
Paula walked in and stared at the person in the tube. She couldn't help but smile.
"And you're sure this experiment will work? It won't be too much for her?"
"I'm positive, Paula."
Paula sighed. The girl... She was so young. She couldn't help but feel like it was wrong to be doing this. It's for the experiment, she thought to herself. It's all for the experiment.
