Transfixed

I'm quite lost in the crowd when I first spot her. She has stunning dirty-blonde hair, piercing green-gray eyes, a strappy black dress with an almost scandalous slit up the side.

I can't take my eyes off of her.

I'm transfixed, rooted to the spot, helplessly entranced.

I think I'm in love with her, and I don't even know her name. This might really be love at first sight. Is that possible?!

As the crowd fluctuates, the girl disappears behind an ominously tall man. It suddenly hits me that anyone who has any self confidence is hitting in her tonight.

Who wouldn't?

I'm sure she certainly has her pick of the litter. She must be so lucky. There's absolutely no way she'd ever be into a mousy, half-repulsive, five-foot-four mess like me.

'She's probably not even gay. She's probably unequivocally straight,' I think.

I slap myself lightly in the forehead, in the most nonchalant manner possible in this situation.

'Lauren!' I scold myself.

'Get your mind out of the gutter! This is a mixer for all new interns who start tomorrow at Seattle Grace Hospital. You're here to become an excellent surgeon— to finally fulfill your long withstanding dreams. Not to fall helplessly in love with some mysterious girl,' my incessant inner monologue drones on.

There's just something so incredibly intriguing about her. I absolutely need to find out why she attracts me so.

It seems as though I'm already obsessed.
