"Hello?"
"Yo. That was so not cool, hanging up on me like that last night dude."
George sighed lightly.
"I know, I'm sorry. Won't happen again."
He heard Sapnap laugh on the other end of the line.
"Yeah, it better not, nimrod."
George returned the laugh, relieved that his best friend wasn't genuinely upset with him.
"Hey, um...I was gonna ask you something yesterday and then I forgot."
Sapnap paused.
"Yeah?"
George scratched the back of his neck, glancing around the room. He met Clay's eyes from across the room, and the blond flashed him a quick smile before returning to his task of unpacking the groceries he had just gotten for George. Sapnap's voice snapped him out of his brief daze a couple moments later.
"What is it, George?" he questioned through the phone.
"Oh, uh, yeah. I was gonna ask — it sounded like you were in a car when you picked up last night. Were you?"
The Texan chuckled again.
"Oh yeah. I was."
"What on earth were you doing driving around at 4 in the fucking morning??"
"Well....so basically..." Sapnap seemed to hesitate, choosing his words carefully, his voice mysterious.
"Basically...?" George prompted him, taking a casual sip of water from the glass on his desk..
"...I'm in New York."
George spat out the water, choking. Clay spun around from the sink, looking over at him in alarm.
"You're WHAT?"
"I'm here. To see you."
"Wh...wha...care to explain???"
Sapnap took a thoughtful breath.
"So remember when you didn't answer any of my calls or texts for days?"
George hummed admittedly.
"Ok...fair. So you were worried? But still, how did you get up here so fast??"
"I booked a flight 12 hours after waiting for you to respond and then drove to the airport last night, or rather, morning, at 3am, which happened to be when you finally decided to come out of hiding."
"So...you were driving to the airport? To see me?"
"Yup. My flight landed an hour ago. I'm about to leave the airport right now, actually."
George's brain whirred as he tried to process his friend's words. From the kitchen, Clay watched him, a bewildered expression on his face.
"...Wow."
"Hey, I realize I should probably ask if this is okay, shouldn't I? Is this okay, George?"
"I...uh-uhmmmm yeah. Yeah of course it is. You just caught me by surprise." he slowly regained his wits, his stomach suddenly churning with nerves and excitement at the thought of finally meeting Sapnap. He giggled like a little boy, hearing Sapnap breath a sigh of relief through the receiver.
