I awoke to pitch blackness, pain coursing through my veins and pushing the air in and out of my lungs at a most unsteady pace. I was still alone; still alive. Maybe not even that...

I knew not what had happened, nor where the growling creature had gone. Agonizing minutes passed as I waited for my eyes to adjust once more to the absolute dark, and I patted myself down from head to toe. From what I could find, I had no open wounds, but many, many small bruises traced wicked lines down my arms and legs. They stung at my touch.

I stood, my limbs screaming in pain as response. Just how long had I been unconcious? Stiffness gave no valid answer...

For the first time, I looked straight up, and nearly fell backward. There was no sky.... Not one which I could see. The tall trees' reaching tips bent against their will upon what lookied like a vast iron cieling.

Something dripped onto my face from the sky, just missing my gaping mouth and splashing into my eye. I screamed, stumbling back; startled by both the drop, as well as the sound of my own voice. I touched the spot on my face where it had fallen. Wet.

I looked at my hand. It was red; dimness revealed that much. My first thought: Blood. No... Not thick enough, it couldn't have been. It was water. Water mixed with rust.

I gave a sudden sigh of relief. It wasn't blood, but a rusted cieling looming over a living dead forest...? Frowning, I continued on.
