chan stared out at the window and crawled across the sofa to get close to it. donghyuck just smiles while looking at his son having fun and goes close to ensure he doesn't fall.

"channie, what are you looking at?" he asks the baby, who's having more fun with the frosted windows and leaving tiny handprints on the glass. "is the snow pretty?"

some gurgles and mumbles are let out, which donghyuck took as a yes and picked his son up. they go to the kitchen, where the jolly atmosphere is fueled by the males talking and laughing.

"hey, the gingerbread cookies are done," renjun hands a plate to his best friend, who takes it with his free hand. "give me chan, i can hold him."

chan holds his hands out to renjun, who smiles and snuggles the baby.

"you and yangyang should have children soon," donghyuck tells his blushing friend, who lightly slaps the other's arm.

"well, we've talked about it but the both of us agreed now is not the right time. i'm still getting used to my job and yangyang is still studying after leaving the military. maybe when everything is settled down," the chinese smiles at the curious baby, who's reaching towards his ring.

"i think you and yangyang will make such good parents."

"well, considering this is coming from a great parent himself, that means a lot," and the two best friends share a smile.

the male was frantically trying to have the baby stop squirming all around, so he could get the thermometer into the ear.

"chan, please, i know you're in pain but this will help you feel better," donghyuck pleads to the crying baby. add on the fact it was 8pm, everything was just so stressful and fast paced for him. and as if he understood, chan quieted down quickly, enough time for the father to insert the thermometer.

the beep went off and donghyuck's eyes widen when seeing the screen. immediately, he gets blankets and wraps a fussing chan in them while getting him into the baby carrier. while trying to find the birth certificate, he also finds the time to call chenle, who was the only one in the friend group who has a car.

"hyung, what is it?" chenle asks as soon as he picks up. "you don't usually call this late."

"chan has a fever of about 38.3 celsius and it seems like he's in a lot of pain."

"i'm coming in 7 minutes, be outside when i get there," the younger spared no time to tell the older.

and 7 minutes later, donghyuck is in the back, trying to get some warm water into chan's mouth while chenle drives to the nearest hospital.

"this is chan's first time besides after birth to go to the hospital, right?" he gestures to the 2 month old infant. "he needs some sort of identification to start a record."

"i have his birth certificate just in case."

once reaching the front, the korean just rushes inside with the baby carrier and goes to the front desk with the papers.

"hi, my son has a fever of about 38.3 degrees and he's also only 2 months old."

"fill these papers out and if you walk down the hall and turn right, the neonatal area is there," the receptionist wastes no time explaining.

45 minutes later, chenle and donghyuck talk to the doctor, who is taking of her gloves after the examination.

"he has strep throat, which isn't common in infants, especially at this age, but it's more fatal when they are this young. it's good you noticed his fever, his throat is really inflamed. any more time and he might have had to stay in the nicu."

she writes down something on a slip of paper and hands it to donghyuck.

"i also prescribed some amoxicillin so be sure to give him 4 milliliters twice a day, preferably after being fed."

"thank you so much!" donghyuck bows and when she leaves, he glances at the sleeping chan with tears in his eyes.

"hyung, why are you crying? chan is fine now," chenle pulls him into a hug.

"i was so scared," donghyuck cries while talking. "chan is so tiny but he already had a fever that high, oh my god."

"you did well, you were so strong with everything," the chinese rubs the korean's back. "you did the best for him."
