Smokey twitched in his sleep. He was dreaming.

He walked around aimlessly in a dark, endless void. Smokey had a second collar now it was a ghostly greyish-white, a vision-collar. The collar had a white rope attached to it. He tried to touch it, but his paw went right through it. The floor of this void was wet, like there was water under Smokey's paws, but when he looked down there was just blackness.

"Hello?" Smokey's mew echoed in the emptiness.

Smokey broke into a trot, deciding to follow the white ghost rope. If it's attached to my...my vision-collar then there must be something.....or someone on the other end! The rope was pulling, so Smokey broke into a steady run. He slipped on the the weird floor and steadied himself. White light flashed at the edge of his vision. His rope pulled once more, Smokey squinted at the light.

He saw that it wasn't actually a light, but a really bright shape of a cat. Smokey trotted excitedly toward it. The other cat's bright light died down a little when Smokey approached. He tried to run toward it but the floor disappeared under him. Smokey shrieked as he fell through the void.

"Smokey. Listen." A voice said. Wind rushed through Smokey's pelt. He flipped himself over so that his paws were facing the bottom of the void. Light flashed around him.

"Huh? Who is that?"

"Smokey."

"Wake up. Wake up." Smokey whimpered to himself. He screwed his eyes shut.

"Hush, Smokey. Listen, I need help. I'm trapped and I need help!" The voice mewed.

"Who are you?" Smokey screeched. He continued trying to wake himself up.

"It's me, dear. Your mother."

"You're aliv-"

Smokey's head hit something solid. He woke up, gasping. He gripped the edge of his nest. My mother is in trouble!
