Chapter Two
Gina Oritz woke up with a pounding headache, she looked over in her bed to find the sun shining through her window. She heard the ring of her phone, and rolled over to see that it was her best friend Mia calling. What could she possibly want at this hour?
“Hello?” said Gina
“Hey it’s me, listen I have something to ask you.”
“If you’re trying to get me to participate in one of those stupid pageants again, I’m going to tell you the answer is no.”“Come on Gina just think about it. They’re looking for unique talents this year. You’re fighting moves will help you win.”
“I don’t want to compete in one of those things, much less win.”
“Think of this way, it will help you earn some extra money for your dad’s garage. I know he needs the money Gina.”
Gina sighed of course Mia knew that her dad’s garage was going to go out of business because of his stupid land lord. The rent was a couple months late, and they had been struggling to pay if off for months. If they didn’t make a sizable payment on it soon, they were going to shut them down for good.
“Okay I’ll think about it but I’m not making any promises.”
“I bet I can convince you to say yes.”
“Maybe with a side of waffles and blue berry pancakes.”
“Okay I’ll be over in five.”When Mia arrived at Gina’s place, Gina’s dad Jerry ran down the steps and hugged her.
“There’s my favorite beauty queen.”
Mia laughed and hugged him back. “Not for long did I tell you Gina’s thinking about competing?”
“Why no you did not!” Jerry looked at his daughter “Is that true pumpkin?”
Gina frowned. “Mia has been trying to get me to compete in one of those stupid things, ever since she won last year. I think I finally might cave, dad we need the money for the garage.”
“Honey I told you I had it under control.”
“Late rent payments and laying off Ray and Mike is not exactly having it under control dad.”
“Are you sure you really want to do this Gina? You’re not exactly the pageant type.”“I know that dad but it just so happens they’re looking for people with unique talents this year. Mia thinks my fighting would come in handy.”
“Yeah with her moves, Gina is a sure bet to win. I can’t wait to give her the crown. I wouldn’t want to hand it over to anyone else.” Said Mia.
“Okay well I’ll let you girls talk, I have to get back to work, see you in Gina.”
“You bet.”After about eight cups of coffee and six waffles and blue beery pancakes. Gina finally agreed to compete in the pageant. Much to Mia’s delight.
