"Mommy look! I made this!" Called a young Kai to his mother in the dry crisp air of the summer afternoon. "What did you make sweetie?" Maya asked, kneeling down to take the newly drawn picture out of the brunette's hands. "It's for Nya!" Kai giggled while grabbing his crayons and starting a brand new drawing while Maya took in her son's picture.
It was a crayon drawing of Kai and Nya holding hands under the sun (that had a smiling face), there were pink flowers scribbled under their feet and on the side was written:

Too the bes sista en the ENTIER worwld
Wee will bee best frends until the day we part.

(All mis-spelled words intended)

Maya felt tears prick the corners of her eyes knowing that if anything were to happen to her and Ray, Nya would have a great older sibling to care for her. "Kai sweetie, this is beautiful!" Maya complemented the young brunette. "Thank you Mommy!" Kai giggled while scribbling more on another sheet of paper. "I hope she likes it!" He added with a giggle as Maya leaned in to kiss his forehead. "She'll love it!" Maya encouraged.

Small time skip

"Maya honey, I have to go and help Cliff and Liz with something. I'll be home later, I love you." Ray informed his wife before leaving her a kiss and locking the door behind him. "Love you too!" Maya called back before tending to a hangry baby Nya. The raven-haired toddler giggled at her mother's reaction when she flung the applesauce bowl at Maya, sending applesauce flying everywhere. Nya continued to giggle as Maya facepalmed and gave up trying.

The exhausted mother wiped some of the sauce off her face with a fresh wet rag and doing the same with Nya's. The fussy toddler started to frown and Maya knew what this meant. Seconds later, Nya broke into a wave of tears, Maya picked her daughter up and started to rock the child in her arms up and down, trying to settle her restless baby.

Before she knew it however, Kai was running inside with his paper and crayons in hand, staring at the sky with worry. "Mommy, why is the sky weird looking?" Kai asked his mother in concern. Maya's gaze turned to confusion as she went to check the opened window only to see the once sunny afternoon had turned to a dark gray, wind blowing at a slight force.

"I don't know baby but let's stay inside okay?" Maya said to her son who nodded and jumped on the couch, continuing to color as if he had no other care in the world.

"Mommy do you hear that?" Kai all the sudden asked the mother who finally got Nya to sleep. "Hear wha —" Maya stopped as soon as the roaring sound reached her ear.
Rushing to the window, Maya glanced up to witness in the distance, a group of high flying planes soaring throughout the gray filled sky. Maya sighed in relief that it was just planes but something seemed off.

They were all spread apart unlike the usual Ninjago airlines. Some were flying right, some left, and some straight ahead. Maya scrunched her face up to try and get a better look until a rumbling was felt underneath her feet as a giant explosion sound went off. Trying to find the source of the sudden explosion, Maya shot her head to the right to see five houses down, one on fire with soldiers running in others houses, bringing out parents and children only to separate them in seconds.

And to Maya's horror, they tore the kids from their mothers and killed them in seconds. The mother, with no hesitation, called Kai to grab anything he needs from his room immediately as another bomb made contact once more with another house. "Mommy what's happening?!" Kai cried out as Nya started to fuss in her sleep.
"Honey please go get your blanket, teddy, and flashlight." Maya ordered as she grasped Nya's favorite ducky.

Kai didn't question further and did as his mother asked. Maya's eyes filled with tears in anxiousness as the soldiers were coming to each house one by one. "KAI LET'S GO!" Maya cried out, not wanting to lose her children. Kai rushed out with the things Maya ordered him to bring and ran to his mother's side. Before they could make it to the back door however, the men were already making their way to the front door as another bomb hit their neighbor's house from the bomber planes.

"Kai, the closet!" Maya told the brunette quickly as Nya started to fuss more at the noise. The two ran to the closet in a rush as the men started to break the door down. "Mommy come in!" Kai cried out before the door burst open and Maya quickly shut the closet door, locking it and leaving a stressed baby Nya and a confused and scared Kai sitting in the cramped room.

Kai could hear his mother's screams in protest as the men forcefully pushed her out of the house as another bomb made contact with the house across from them. The young brunette picked his baby sister up and hugged her tightly with white hot tears trickling down his cheeks as his mother's screams were becoming more and more distant.

"Ma." Nya cried out while holding her tiny hands out, as if to grasp onto Maya and bring her back.

"No Nya. She's not coming back." Kai cried to his baby sister, trying to doubt his own words but it was no use because he knew it was true.
Kai tightly squeezed the toddler as more tears fell.
