Kushina Uzumaki
Alarms screeched and shrieked, alerting Konoha to an attack. Kushina grimaced, the sound was too loud. Her little boy who had been born but mere minutes ago — Naruto, that was what his name would be, he would be her little maelstrom— opened his shockingly blue eyes and started to cry.
Kushina quietly cursed, she didn't like the idea of Naruto crying. She wanted her baby to be happy! To be safe and sound, not hearing the annoyingly loud alarms, not smelling the smoke, not in the dirty presence of those — Those pathetic excuses of villagers.
Naruto was her perfect little maelstrom. Minato was her perfect husband and most importantly, her little Naruto's father. If she had had her way, they would have gone to the ruins of Uzushiogakure before she gave birth, abandoning Konoha which had scorned them both since the day they were born.
But Minato wouldn't have that, Kushina knew. He was too loyal, and while that was good, in this case, it was not. Minato was too kind-hearted, too forgiving, too lenient.
Minato had forgotten everything Konoha had done to him. They had scorned him, mocked him, bullied him, and tried to kill him just for the sake of it. That only changed when he showed his natural genius and prodigy-ness.
Then it had been all sunshine and flowers, all 'See, that's Minato-sama, look at him, he's so cool!' and 'Minato! Will you go out with me?'
Kushina knew she was going to leave soon. She had survived way too many battles and conflicts, lived through way too much. It was only natural that she died.
There has always been a strange connection between the Shinigami and Uzumaki. Death has been forever intertwined with the Uzumaki, and the threads of fate that bound the God of Death to those scarlet-haired hiumans were not going to unravel now.
Kushina would make sure her Maelstrom survived, though. Her little boy couldn't die, no, Naruto couldn't die. He would live and grow into a fine, powerful young man, surpassing every creature in existence.
Aside from the Uzumaki scrolls her mother, Mito, saddled her with before sending her to safety, there had been one seal she reconized, one seal she had sneaked into the vast Uzumaki treasuries to attain.
A forbidden seal, forbidden because it would result in the death of the caster. Shinobuto, Uzumaki Kaze it was called. It would cause all the caster's chakra, intelligence, prowess and lifespan to be given to the receiver of the seal.
Kushina dipped a finger in the ink pot on the nightstand and started to write fervently. She drew incarnate symbols on little Naruto's wrist, drawing faster and faster as she sensed impending doom from coming to her.
As if fate heard her thoughts, a loud crashing came from outside, and the entire hut was uprooted from the ground. The surrounding walls and roof disappeared, leaving Kushina standing, without any means of defense, in front of the Kyuubi.
The Kyuubi stared at her mournfully, knowing what his former jailer was going to to do. Contrary to popular belief, the Bijuu didn't hate his jinchuuriki. He had long since made peace with them. Then he saw red, and the tailed beast pounced.
Kushina looked fearlessly at the Kyu-Kurama, his name was Kurama not Kyuubi. Just like her name was Kushina not Human. She knew that something was wrong, Kurama wouldn't attack Konoha for no reason. Then she saw Kurama's eyes momentarily flash red, three tomoes in each of them, and came to a conclusion — the Bijuu was being controlled.
The fox leaped at the crimson-haired woman, who dodged his flashing claws, grabbed her blond child, and leaped away. Great chains sprouted from her back and held him still.
