Pain.
That's all I could feel. The pain of past memories, the pain of not having a future, and the current pain of my, probably broken, ribs. All I wanted was a glass of water, it has been 2 days since I last had any. I should've stayed in mine and Teo's room but I was so thirsty.
I had just woken up from a nightmare, which definitely wasn't the first time, and I didn't want to disturb my twin brother Matteo. Paul beat him up pretty good last night and I knew he was tired. I got up from the sleeping bag that I call a bed on the floor and slowly crept to the door.
I pulled it open as slow as possible, because of the squeaking noise it makes when you open it too fast, and poked my head out. The light in my so-called "parents" room was off and I assumed they were sleeping. Boy was I wrong. I slowly tiptoed to the stairs and started down them.
I was almost to the bottom, making sure to avoid the third to last step that creaks when you step on it. Right as my foot was about to touch the last step, I was pushed from behind. My chin made contact with the cool tile floor and I could already feel the bruise that was forming. I laid there for a second before I felt someone grab my from above me. Paul.
"What the hell are you doing out of your room bitch?" He pulled me up by my hair, then grabbed my throat and pushed me hard against the wall, I could barely breathe. "Huh! I asked you a question, are you stupid or something? Answer me!" He screamed.
"I a-am so-o-rr-y" I squeaked out between breaths. "I didn't ask for your stupid apoligies did I you bitch" I could feel myself starting to lose consiousness and right before I blacked out he threw me to the floor. I could feel him repeatedly kicking me in the stomach to the point where I was coughing up blood.
When he finally stopped, the pain started to creep in, feeling like hundreds of knives piercing my whole body. I watched through blurry eyes as he started up the stairs and disappeared down the hallway, but not before shouting over his shoulder "You better not be there when I wake up or you'll regret it."
All I could see was black dots covering my vision. As much as I wanted to lay here in a puddle of my own blood, I really didn't want to get another beating, so I slowly started to crawl towards the stairs.
I could barely move without feeling a sharp pain somewhere on my body. I felt like I was dying, and the continuous black spots did nothing to help.
I was about halfway up the stairs when I heard quiet footsteps approaching and I went completely still, holding my breath. I don't think I could take another beating if it was Paul, but based off the footsteps I'm assuming it's my 'mother' or, hopefully, my brother.
A few seconds later I felt a hand on my shoulder and I immediately flinched, looking up I was met with an identical pair of green eyes that only my brother and I share. I felt relief flood my body as he pulled me into his arms, carrying me bridal style.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and I was so thankful that he was there. I know he must have been in a lot of pain from Paul's beating last night. I laid my head on his shoulder as I felt myself slipping into darkness. The last thing I remember is a kiss on my forehead, before the nightmares began.
