Today is the day.
Today is Alice's 20 birthday. Out of all the birthdays she has celebrated for the past 19 years, this year she decides to request a different birthday present from her parents, the one she has been wanting so much.
Alice's POV
"NO," I replied to them. I thought of this answer a million time but guess I was lucky to get it.
"Why? You're already 20 years old Lis!" Olivia questions me. She's even angrier than me.
"Does your parents have problems? It's not like they don't know us, or didn't you told them you wanted to go out with us?" Elle asks me in confusion.
These are my friends, Olivia and Elle. We met during Highschool and we have been friends since then. Even my parents have met them before so why couldn't they let me hang out with them.
Olivia's is right too, I'm 20 this year and I still don't have the right to hang out with my friends on my birthday. When will this end? I am not going to spend my whole life celebrating my birthday at home with my parents only.
I stayed quiet the whole time while they start questioning more and more. I just didn't know how to answer them. I don't even know what to answer them.
"Guys!" I calmed them down. I don't wish to bother them for too long so I ended their talk. "No matter how we say or what we say, the answer is just going to be the same. You guys know how my parents act."
I shouldn't have said that. Why did I say that?
"I'm sorry Lis, you tried." Elle comforts me. I am the one that should apologize but I was speechless at the moment.
After we ended our class, I went straight out of the classroom and bid Olivia and Elle goodbye. This year, my parents came to my school and pick me up.
I wasn't in a good mood today after the fight I had with my mother this morning so we basically didn't talk along the way home.
When we arrived home, I was in a hurry leaving the car when my father grabs my hand all of a sudden. He hands me a box saying it's a present for me. I nodded while taking it and went out of the car into my house.
I opened the door and saw my mother starting to prepare dinner for my birthday, I wasn't hoping for a present from her today nor from my father. I head to my room without a second look at her, she wouldn't want to be disturbed by me either.
To be honest, my heart was excited about what present my father gave me earlier but I just didn't want to show it out. I quickly threw away my bag and started unpacking the gift papers from the box, it was a red box with a bow in middle. I didn't care what was in the box, I was happy father wish to use his time to wrap this present for me.
I quickly open the box and see a paper in it? It was a poster of my favorite Marvel Hero, Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch. I laughed so loud that I hope my parents didn't hear from downstairs, the poster was drawn and colored by my father.
My heart felt warmed seeing him willing to do this for me, I love him.
"Alice, dinner is ready!" I heard my father calling for me for dinner. When I saw him downstairs I whispered to him a 'Thank you' for the present.
After dinner, my parents had prepared the cake like every year. We closed all the lights, lit the candles on the cake, and started singing Happy Birthday. Before the song could end, my mother's phone rang and cut our moment. She answered the phone in the living room while my father and I were waiting for her.
"Honey, your father and I need to talk. Could you give us a moment?" My mother requested and I head upstairs on my own.
That 'moment' took ages so I took a small pick from the staircase and saw no one was there. Soon, I went downstairs to check anyone was there but no, even the car was gone. They left me alone at home, on my birthday.
I went back to my room and lay on my bed, thinking of so many things.
Why did they leave me here? Why don't you guys let me celebrate with my friends? Do you guys really care about me? Where are you guys?
I felt teardrops starting to pour onto my pillow, but I can't hold it. I fell asleep very soon but the sleep didn't last long. I woke up at midnight and check my phone, there's still a few minutes left before my birthday ends.
And I had the hope that this year's birthday was going to be different, it was all just fake hopes. But I didn't care anymore at the time, this day is going to end so scroll through my phone reading birthday messages and videos sent by my friends.
'Hope your wish comes true!' this message I saw from one of my friends reminded me that I haven't wished for my birthday wish yet. I went by the window, looking at the night sky and the moon, it was a beautiful night; sadly it was ending.
I said my wish with my fingers interlocked. "I wish for my dreams to come true."
