It was in the late spring of 1999 when Mum decided to get rid of the old Hillman Avenger parked in front of the building containing our small flat. The kids in the hood used to call it The Four-wheel Flat for obvious reasons.
But it was a cozy retreat anyway when we stole the keys and rested inside with friends. And a Walkman: Not only the car's battery had long since dead, but also it's cassette player used to get hot and eventually once, it got so hot that it deformed a cassette which never made it out after it got cold.
Finally one day, abracadabra: the Avenger turned into dried leaves and stones and cola cans. But the real treat of the magic was on the top of a desk in our flat: a personal computer.
