The fiasco a week ago.
Stevie was standing in front of a modern house. After sitting in her car for fifteen minutes mustering the courage, she put on her big girl pants, walked to the luxurious doors, and knocked.
Her poor heart was trying to escape her body. It was probably aware of the disaster that's about to come.
Breathe in, breathe out, relax.
There was shuffling from the other side of the door and someone opened them. That, someone, was not Adam.
Did I fucking miss the house, she thought, irritated.
"Yes," a man inside the house asked. He was wearing gray sweatpants and a black T-shirt. His feet were bare and Stevie, a weirdo that she is, stared at his toes.
"I'm looking for Adam, is he here?" she asked after composing herself.
The man looked behind him and shouted: "Adam, someones here for you."
He didn't invite her in, they just stood in painfully awkward silence while they waited for Adam. Stevie fidgeted and played with her hands. Suddenly, the zipper on her bag seemed really interesting. The guy was ridiculously tall and she fell intimidated. Suddenly she wondered if he was to punch her how far would she fly.
No one will beat you, calm down, she encouraged herself.
Finally, she looked at his face. His brows formed a frown and his lips were in a straight line. His face said: irritated, annoyed, not friendly.
Heavy footsteps filled the house and Adam appeared. He looked just like his pictures that Stevie googled very often. Dirty blond hair, sharp jaw, piercing blue eyes, and a slight stubble covering his chin.
"Who are you?" he asked with a harsh tone. Stevie had to refrain from flinching. She was pretty sure that her smile wobbled.
"I'm sorry to bother you, but do you have a minute? I have something very important to talk to you about," she said in the exact same speech she practiced for the last few days.
"No, thank you," he said with no hint of a smile or compassion. Adam and the other guy stared at Stevie, they were pissed.
"How did you get the address?" Adam was clearly bothered.
Stevie was not proud of how she got his information. She had to beg Stacy from her company department to give her the address. Stacy worked with marketing a year before and Stevie knew that NaturalMedic collaborated with the basketball team, thus she knew that Stacy still had the team information somewhere. She was right, it took her a while to get Stacy to agree.
Stevie just stared at Adam, her practiced speech evaporated. Her last brain cell was mesmerized by her brother. They looked alike, same dirty blond hair and blue eyes.
"Leave, and don't come back," Adam practically spat out. The other guy besides his threw a nasty glare toward her and began to close the door. In a panic, Stevie just blurted out.
"We have the same dad."
That got their attention. Adam's mouth hung open for a moment then he recovered. He was furious.
"Leave," he said. Stevie was shocked. She didn't expect him to hug her and tell her he loves her, she's not delusional, but she didn't expect to be repudiated. She just stood still and blinked at him, feeling like an idiot. They might look alike but she would never act like such a jerk.
"Adam, let's hear her out," the other guy said quietly to Adam. He pushed him inside and continued: "Go, take a minute. I'll make her a drink."
Adam disappeared inside but Stevie still felt like drowning in his rage.
