Chapter 3 What Lurks in the Dark

They day was full of running around, being bumped into, almost getting hit by cars, and exploring. Skylar was trying to forget what happened earlier, she never spoke of it, but i could tell it was on replay in her head. Just as it was in mine. And Angel was to frightened if the fact that the man knew our names and was supposebly sent by are mother.

Its was nearing dark as we walked the streets of New York, and it was getting more dangerous as the sun sank lower into the horizon. We were following a map to find our way back to hotel, we had obviously gotten loss.

''We can cut through thus ally right here.'' Angel said, stopping, but then looked up from the map and staring into the darkness.

''Really Angel?" I said.

''Well it may be dark and scary, but it gets us there faster.'' She told us.

''Ok,but lets hurry.'' Skylar said walking into the dark, her knife back in her hand.

The ally was longer than we thought. We walked and all we could see was the light our cell phones gave us. There was a loud sound behind me on my left.

''What was that?''Angel asked startled.

''Porbably just a cat.'' I told her.

I watched behind us and you could still see the street light, and standing at the end was a figure. I was unsure if it was the guy from earlier or something else. But when I blinked he seemed closer.

''Skylar.'' I said, my voice shaky.

''What?'' She snapped, but then she saw the figure.

She grabbed my arm and pulled me away fast. Suddenly there was a loud sound and I felt something hit me in my stomach , knocking the breath out of me as I went flying backward. My back hit the pavement, sending a sharp pain up my back, I stopped my head just in time from impacting with the pavement.

''Are you ok?''Angel said when she was next to me.

I tried to get up, but lost my balance and regained it on the second time. I could make out a dark figure and Skylar, who was standing between us and and it, knife in hand. Then suddenly there was a figure next to Skylar and I knew who it was. Skylar turned toward us and grabbed mine and Angel's arm, pulling us away from the 2 figures.

As we ran back up the ally a figure appeared in front of us and Skylar immediately went to defend us.

''Sky no!'' I called, grabbing her arm, because I knew the figure meant us no harm. ''Its not that thing, he saved us.''

She stopped and was probably wondering how I knew it was him, honestly I didn't know myself.

''You have to get out of here quickly, before more come, get back to the hotel.'' said the familiar voice.

Skylar grabbed my arm hard and pulled me around him. We ran as fast as we could back to the hotel. We ran through the doors, completely out of breath with some people giving us weird looks.

''What?'' Angel said looking to them. ''You don't know what might happen to 3 teens on the streets of New York at night.'' and with that, they looked away.

We got into the elevator and hit 2 as the door closed. Suddenly the elevator did the same thing it did to me last night. The lights flickered as the elevator stood still. And someone apeared behind Angel and she scream, jumping to the other side.

''Is everyone ok?'' He asked.

''Yes.'' I replied.

''Good. I told you this word is different." he said glaring at Skylar.

"Who are you?" she asked.

"That's not important. Plus I just saved you."

"Thank you." Angel said.

"What did you save us from?" I asked

"Something dangerous." He replied.

"Can you be more specific?" Angel asked.

"Not right now."

"Then if your not going to tell us anything let us out of this damn elevator." Skylar demanded.

"As you wish." He said as the lights flickered and he was gone.

The door opened, we stepped onto the 2nd floor and went our hotel room.

"Believe me now." I asked Skylar.

"Yes and that's why we have to leave New York as soon as possible." She responded.

"What? we've been panning this trip forever we cant just leave, because of some prank?" Angel protested.

"Then how do you explain all that has happened?" I asked crossing my arms.

"He was obviously at the hotel last night, because you saw him." Angel began. "So. he had to have heard us saying each others name . Then in the elevator, there are ways to stop it and get in and out from the top. They pranked is and got some guy to follow us and attack us."

It made some sense, but i still believe there was something else going on.

"can you explain this?" Asked a voice from behind Angel.

Angel turned around and there sat the boy in the green arm chair.

"If you are going to keep appearing out of no where can you atleast tell us your name." I said.

"That's not important." You just need to trust me.

"How can you we trust you if don't even know your name?" Skylar asked.

"Your right, you cant even though i just saved your life from that...... Thing."

"Give us answers or we will not trust you.' i demanded.

"Alright my name is Will and that thing was a demon that wants you dead."

"Why?" Angel asked.

"You are important." He said standing up.

"But you will learn more about that later."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"If you want to live then you have to come with me."

"Where?" Angel asked.

"Cant tell."

"Then we aren't going." Skylar protested.

"You know what." he said. "I give up. Ill just have to try again tomorrow. But you 3 want survive 24 hours without me." And suddenly he disappeared.
