The soft rustling of the snow; the cackle of the fire and the bubbling of brewery all brought life to a small cave in the harsh winter of the Dragonspire. At a canvas that was propped up in one corner of the cave, stood the Chief Alchemist of the Knights of Favonius, Albedo. He had just finished another painting and was analyzing his own work.
The crunching of snow brought Albedo's attention to the new person who had entered his little hideout.
"Aether! Welcome back. How was today's progress?"
Aether took out the Festering Desire sword that had started to give off a pinkish glow and displayed to the alchemist his hard work of refining the weapon. Albedo came closer to take a look at the weapon; a notepad in hand; noting what changes had been made since the Traveler had been restoring the blade.
Aether watched with his curious amber eyes as the other immersed himself in the study of the weapon. This was like his daily ritual of just admiring the alluring ashy-blonde haired male when he would get lost in thoughts. Once in a while Albedo would ask him about his training and Aether would try his best to give him a description of the events that had taken place. After the alchemist was finally satisfied with the results, would he bring back his thoughts to earth.
These days, the two had become closer with one another, having small talk after the surveys that were conducted; while distracting Paimon with some food so that they would have their time alone. Sometimes, Albedo would show off his new inventions to the traveler and let him try them out - if he was certain, they would not cause any harm. Unknowingly, Aether started to look forwards to his trips to the snowy and ragged mountains of Dragonspire.
Today, Paimon was not accompanying him - something about feasting on Honey Roast back in Mondstadt.
"So, do you know how to dance?" Albedo asked suddenly that it caught Aether offhand, nearly dropping the sword he held in his hand.
"K-k-kind of?" Aether answered with uncertainty because he himself did not know if he remembered how to dance. A poignant smile appeared on his face as he thought back to the time with his sister - when they would dance and laugh about in open fields as they journeyed through the several worlds together.
He snapped out of his thoughts when he felt the warmth of another hand holding his own in a delicate manner. Albedo had intertwined their fingers together and was holding onto his waist with the other hand.
"May I have this dance?" the other male asked with a gentle smile on his face.
Warmth and blood rushed all over Aether's body, bringing rouge to his freezing cheeks - heat that could melt the icy caps of the mountains. He gave an embarrassed nod, lowering his face to hide the blush that had spread to his ears.
Albedo led the way as the two of them swayed side to side with minimum footwork, to the melodious tune that was playing on the radio on the table - which Aether was not aware of when it had been turned on. Soon, he relaxed to the embrace he was held in and gave little giggles as Albedo led him on to the rhythm.
Before he knew what he was doing, he leaned his head against the alchemist shoulder, the shared body warmth spreading through his skin; warming his heart.
"Aether..."
He looked up to be only met with the softness of another lip on his own. He realized what was happening and once again, his face turned as red as a tomato. He melted into the kiss and they stayed like that - embracing each other; giving little pecks here and there, as soft tunes played on the radio.
Aether did not know how long they had remained like that until Albedo's fingers wiped at the unknowing tears that had rolled down his cheeks.
"Are you unhappy?" Albedo asked with concern in his voice.
"No. Not at all. Quite the opposite..." Aether murmured with a small smile on his face.
"Oh? Do you want to tell me the reason why?"
"It's because..." Aether paused in his tracks as he realized he was about to confess his feelings to other male whom he had admired from a distance.
However, he felt encouraged to do so with Albedo holding onto him, a warm welcoming smile that complemented his beady turquoise eyes.
"I have you by my side." Aether said with a beaming smile on his face.
